Meteor question

How much life does the Llandbedr Meteor have in her?I read something in Aircraft Illustrated a few months back which stated that her retirement was imminent.
Do they still have an active Canberra there aswell?

I viewed her about a year ago – she won’t fly again – corrosion is too far into her.
On the ‘flyers’ point I believe the is still one Meteor D16 flying out of Llanbedr.

I have recently (6/12/2003) received a pic of Buccaneer XX885 in the hangar at Scampton, behind it is the Meteor and it seems as though she is receiving some attention, anyone know any different?

Yes they have a F8 Meatbox. They was a photo of the jet in a magazine about a year ago. Cannot remember if it was being re-assembled, restored to static or rebuilt to fly.

Didnt OFMC have an F.8 in store somewhere (Scampton?) with the potential to restore to flight….:confused:

When Kennett Aviation sold Winston, a statement was attributed to them to the effect that they planned to replace it long-term with their own Meteor F.8 project. I have never heard any more about that.

Two other still-born attempts in recent years are the RAAF Museum T.7 for which no suitable engines could be found, and an Argentine F.4 which went a very long way towards flight before corrosion was found which was too serious to recover.

Two at MB one of which (the black one) can only be flown by Bob Thompson because of the cockpit layout (any ideas what the difference is?)
