Well today Gloster Meteor WA591 has sucessfully carried out fast taxi runs for the first time and moved under her own power for the first time in about 45 years. A great day and a great achievment for the aircraft and the Team. I would like to send my good wishes and congrats to the whole team who have been working on her in the last 18 years. Some are no longer with us.
Sadly I could not be there. I was going to flying up in G-POZA but my radio decided to go T!TS up on route just after take off 😡

It landed at Coventry on tuesday. Slightly smoking from one engine pod but okay. Great project.

Was at Kemble today to watch this beauty being prepared and it was having its canopy refitted. Apparently the CAA have given authority for the Meteor to carry it’s military serial immediately, so this may be the last pic showing its civil reg. Thought you might also like to see this machine when I first saw it in a dark hangar at Kemble in April 1971 as 7917M coded ‘U’

No conformation as to where 591 is going to be painted yet so best not to bandy locations about as it may effect the outcome. Locations have been enquired about but its all under wraps until it happens really. 😉
Best Regards

Suggest you quote and ‘censor’ post#5 then as I was just quoting that!

You are probably asking a near impossible question. The date and time of any first flight after restoration or maintenance is influenced by so many factors such as pilot availability, weather, airfield issues, signitures, the CAA, insurance and all that is before any glitches with the aircraft, that to set a date /time is near impossible. So please do not be upset if you hear nothing from them.

I would guess the challenge will be to do air tests and have it painted at ***** in time to make its debut at Kemble’s Air Show on 18/19 June?

Congratulations to everyone connected with this project.
Do we know who will be the pilot for these test flights?
Cheers
Freebird 🙂
I asked the same question in post #23 freebird, but as yet no-one has stepped forward with a name!
