Metheringham Open Weekend – 4th and 5th May

Hi all

A heads up that it’s the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre Open Weekend this Sunday / Monday

I’ve learned that there are a number of cockpits on display this year, including some less often seen examples of Lightning(s), Harrier, Dominie, Hunter and Buccaneer.
I dont know which examples they are so it would be worth making the trip to check them out!

The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance will be resident on site on both days, subject of course to it being required elsewhere….

Also – on the Monday (5th May) at around noon – Jet Provost XS186 will be doing an engine run, and the XS186 crew will be on hand to cover an often overlooked area of vintage aircraft operations by showing and operating the comprehensive range of ground equipment we have, as well as just being there to talk aeroplanes.

Finally but not least the BBMF Lancaster will put in it’s usual spirited display in the afternoon at around 3:00pm

The above combined with a WW2 re-enactors display, vintage bus trips around the airfield, the impressive displays in the ex RAF gymnasium, ration store and air raid shelters should make it a great weekend, on a site that those who have been before will know, is quite a special place.

Much appreciated but I have sorted a lift. Look forward to it! My last visit, well I biked from Lincoln, only 7 miles to Metheringham as directed – and a fair few more to their airfield. 28 in total! Baking heat but it was well worth it. Still have my copies of the Dam Busters plans I bought from a lovely old gentleman during my first visit…

The usual rural challenges apply over bank holiday periods, though trains to Metheringham from Lincoln are running, if you need a lift from Methy train station the two miles to the airfield, just PM me before the day, we can exchange numbers and send a car down to the station.

I hope public transport is feasible as I really want to go to this one.
