Hi,
Would anyone have any information or
photos of a Fairchild C-82 Packet that was
on permanent display in a city park in Hermosillo, Mexico?
You can see it clearly in Google Earth but it
was recently been taken away before a friend
of mine could photograph it for me.
Rumored to be s/n: 44-23015???
Cheers

Mystery C-82
Heres a Google earth picture which helped me pin-point
its location to start with.
I’ve also written to a local newspaper but it was english
so I don’t know how much luck I’ll have.
Also written to a Mexican AF captain who I was told knows
many things about aircraft locales etc.
I’m very interested in finding this aircraft, I’ve studied the
C-82 for over 10 years now and to miss the aircraft by
two weeks!!!!…….A friend in Mexico drove there in his car
and the security guard told him it had been trucked out.
I appreciate all the help been offed by everyone on this thread.
Cheers

Very interesting, you would expect it to be next to an airport, but this does not seem to be the case!

Thanks.
Nice clear picture.
I’ll get right on it, but might take a little while, as i need to get the letter translated (got Spanish relatives).
Hopefully we can get more info soon.

Simon could you try to get a shot from Google earth and post it here?
I will try to contact a newspaper in Hermasillo, to see if i can tickle their repporter-bone a bit. Maybe we can get some kind of confirmation, or at least find out where they moved her.
I need the picture to pin-point the location.
Found it!! Here:

Mexican C-82

Sure does have a fantastic history. I’ve traced it
from the factory door to the last known record of
it which was around 1971.

The thing is it dissappeared a few weeks ago and
no-one knows where it has gone????

If it is 44-23015 it has a fantastic history.
As N6989C it was one of the original jet-pack test-aircrafts, used by Steward-Davis Inc.
But it was also the AC used in the movie “The Flight of the Phoenix” in 1965.
Most likely N6989C was scrapped in the mid 1970, but who knows.
