It has been reported that Professor Mick Aston of ‘Time Team’ fame has died today but the only reference to his death I can find is via Wiki ;

I thought his death would have been posted more openly by now and certainly on the BBC but not as yet ?
Sad news if correct .

Very sad news, one of my long time favourite shows made so by the personalities involved – especially Mick.

It’s a shame that he felt forced to leave before the final series, after the makers of TT decided to dumb the show down.
R.I.P Mick
Yes a shame and he was angry about the changes at the time, and rightly so. But it follows the trend of so much of today’s factual television which is tending more and more to the entertainment end of the spectrum and further away from the information end. Commenting on the changes to the dire BBC “Countryfile”, Mick said it had reduced the programme to “cliche-ridden pap”. Good for him – true to himself to the last. He played a large part in bringing archaeology, a dusty subject 20 years ago, to a wider public, and for that he will not be forgotten.

His partner Teresa Hall had bought a house in Cornwall recently, so the two of
them were spending quite a lot of time down there.
He is survived by his mother (97), his son James, step-daughter Kathryn and
her husband and son, who is about two now. Mick had no siblings.
Mick’s son James was ringing round Mick’s friends and close colleagues last
night to give the news personally, rather than issue a press release.
That’s why the media didn’t report it last night.
It’s a shame that he felt forced to leave before the final series, after the makers of TT decided to dumb the show down.

My condolences to his family and friends. The Time team gang did so much to make it interesting and allow the masses to understand and learn.Not enough programmes like this in my opinion,people just want plastic x factor crap.

Indeed so. Phil Harding was quoted in the Guardian:
“It just seems so incredible, like a bad dream, but unfortunately this is no dream,” the 62-year-old said. “He was a seriously good mate and a seriously good archaeologist, a unique man. Everybody loved him, he just had a way with people. I cannot believe there was anybody who disliked him, he just had such a relaxed way.”
