Hello everyone, this is my first post. So I hope you won’t be aggressive in replying.
It has been rumered that MEA is going to join Skyteam in the near future, but unfortunately we haven’t seen any official statement from Skyteam. But this week MEA received the Skyteam stickers to put them on their airplanes as soon as they join the alliance.
Any news or information regarding this?

I haven´t heard anything from Delta on the matter to be honest with you. As far as I can see, it would be good for the alliance to have a Middle East partner, especially one that is growing and has an excellent hub that is rife for expansion.

gpb_croppers63,
nice having you back in Germany !!
Returning to our main subject, all Skyteam members have to approve on the candidacy of a new member, right?
Airfrance did approve (as far as I know, Airfrance wants MEA to enter Skyteam:D ), CSA Czech Airlines will give their opinion in april. Does anyone know anything about the other companies in Skyteam?
gpb_croppers63, did Delta give any opinion concerning MEA joining the alliance?

Mark L,
yes, they are planning to bring a 4th A330-200 (I heard also it might be an A340 !!) as soon as they reopen Sao Paolo, cause their 3 longhaul A330 are intensively used (they’re sending an A330 here to Düsseldorf 🙂 ).
MEA had a good history in longhaul flights, I remember they were flying to Sydney in 1992, to Sao Paolo in 1995 and a non-stop to New York with their Boeing 747-200 😀 .
gpb_croppers63 ,
herzlich Willkommen zur Thread, ich komme aus dem Libanon aber ich wohne seit Jahre in Deutschland (Aachen) .

Mark L,
As far as I know, these couples of years were excellent for MEA, gaining after years of losses, surely not as big as Emirates, but with the “High Quality” airplanes (brand new 9 airplanes forming the youngest fleet in the world with 0,75 years old) ,they are between the best airlines in the Middle East, even competing with Emirates on some routes. I think MEA can provide excellent connections for Skyteam members especially for the pax coming from US, Mexico …
MEA will reopen the Sao Paolo (GRU) route in few months and is considering reopening Sydney too !!
Concerning Beirut (BEY), yes indeed they are doing very well too and BEY have been rated 2nd best airport in the region after Dubai (DXB).
Hand87_5,
merci, ca fait toujours plaisir d’avoir un francais 🙂

Would be a nice Middle Eastern coup for Skyteam, I know Beirut is doing extremely well as a Middle Eastern “hub” and MEAs fleet renewal programme has been quite extensive.
I assume that they are a nationalised airline, but how well do they operate compared with the other big players in the region?

will MEA be between those names some day??

this is a pic of a MEA A321 approaching Beirut Int’l (BEY), MEA has 6 A321 and 3 A330.
