I feel sure know this correspondent to the Telegraph, and am certain he wears a hat!
SIR – Along with many other careful, experienced drivers, I habitually drive in the centre lanes of motorways at exactly 70mph. Any one who considers themselves inconvenienced by this habit can only want to drive above the legal speed limit and should stick to the outside lane where everyone seems to have the same aim.
David Whitaker
Chawton, Hampshire
I refer him and others who are arrogant enough to describe themselves as he does, to the relevant section of the Highway Code, which I doubt he has read since passing his test.
Motorway Lane discipline (264 to 266)
264
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, HA traffic officers in uniform or by signs.
Laws MT(E&W)R regs 5, 9 & 16(1)(a), MT(S)R regs 4, 8 & 14(1)(a), and RTA 1988, sects 35 & 186, as amended by TMA 2004 sect 6

SNAFU Unless it weighs over 2 tons and has in excess of a 4ltr v8 and is capable than twice the legal limit one of mine is bigger than yours.
Is it Linc’s Trabant?;o)

Have I found it?
Nope different colour, different shape, different manufacturer, etc, but yes it is a people carrier.
Actually came around to the early Multipla after seeing the baby seat inbetween the front seats – makes it easier to comfort the toddler rather than just yelling nice things over your shoulder. No idea about anything else about it, might be an ugly dog for all I know.
I can still drive legally faster than any of you lot 🙂
You are a fire engine driver and I claim my £5?

I agree with your comment about size Paul, HOWEVER, mine is “Only” a 1.600..will now do well over twice the legal limit, and I bet it uses less fuel than yours, so size does matter, (So your wife said :highly_amused:)

Been fixed now Paul by Beemer, it wasn’t a lot, but enough to stop it dead in it’s tracks before it got any worse.

The vehicle concerned was chosen by my wife, for a reason. Over the years we’ve had it it has proven its worth admirably, despite the gentle taunting of workmates with their turbo GTi hot wheels toys made real.
I’m not all that interested in claiming my car is better than anybody else’s, I have merely mentioned that some cars have ugly hinges (or are ugly): anything more than that is as bad as comparing our ‘gentlemanly accouterments’ in public. All I shall say is that mine is bigger than Linc’s…;o)

Nothing flash, enough room in it for the wife and kids, a bag or two of shopping, a road map of indeterminate age, and me.

One of them? Or actually thousands of ’em…
Snafu – I don’t know where you live but there are certainly no dual cycle/pedestrian tracks near here – there isn’t room for starters!!
Went past a secondary school this morning – was surprised to see the sign above on posts alongside the school itself! What sort of encouragement is that to the kids?
Well snafu, I did say a 1960 mini.(Rolls eyes even MORE than yours)
Maybe you did, but the implication as I took it was that the old Mini looked nothing like an Aston, not the recent version.[/shakes head sadly whilst revolving a finger clockwise at temple height, other hand placed wrist deep in a bowl of custard. Your turn;o)]
