Midland Air Museum 3/12/2006

Went over to the MAM today (wish i’d worn more layers though!), had a great time as I always do when there, and many thanks to Phantom Phixer for showing me and my dad around and into the Canberra, Whirlwind and Hind (although felt a bit worried when the wind started rocking the Whirly when I was in it!). Anyway, here’s some pictures of the excellent exhibits, well worth a visit even if you’re not local

Anyway, here’s some of the photos I took today

The Hunter has to be one of the best looking fixed wing aircraft, XF382 is looking tip-top after the repaint etc

Sea Vixen looking good in the sunshine

Always thought the Argosy looks quite nice, despite it’s massive size

http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/7606/whirlwindej8.jpg

Love the look of the Whirly and good to see it getting the same treatment as the other airframes – a lot of Whirlys i’ve seen look as if they’re about to fall apart

Model of a jet powered flying wing – I think it’s the Armstrong Whitworth AW.52

One of quite a few good cartoons depicting aircraft – can’t remember the artists name, think it was something Aitken. Anyway, this depicts the prone pilot Meteor and was my favourite 😀

I’m sure it’ll look good Bex, but it takes a long, long time. You have all the time in the world, so don’t worry about it. 😉

Rob thanks for ya support as always, I have to be honest I try an look at Malcs Cranberry at least once a day, not just for a “Cranberry Fix” but just to remind myself that ok Ive got a heck of a jigsaw puzzle but look at what can be done with a bit of hard work. And also thanks to the email support from U, Martin, Malcom & Les I know I’ll get there er eventually LoL. Bex

One is that all, i took about 25 pics of her last time i went (for shame).

Still it is good to see the right hand phantom but is it me or is the insignia at the back got grey paint on it ? or is it just the angle of the pic ?

curlyboy

It’s not the light or been painted grey my friend, it’s the insignia thats been peeled off. The grey that you can see is the original grey from it’s previous scheme. 😉

Great pics, thanks for posting. MAM is one of my favourites – a good collection maintained in good condition and a well stocked shop. I just wish the train people on the site next door would learn to care for their rolling stock the way MAM care for their aircraft.

Ah, knew I took a photo of the Phantom, here it is

http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7163/phantomgd9.jpg

Would definitely like to see the Whirly in early Bristows livery, off the top of my head all preserved Whirlwinds in civilian colours are in the later livery like it is at the minute

Nice shots Rob. MAM are doing a great job restoring the outside aircraft. Think the Whirlwind is to be restored in early Bristows colours and possibly the Argosy is next?

Yes the Argosy is next, but not till next year Albert.

Never quite mastered left or right honest. And before any one takes the mickey (Rob) I do manage to find my way to the correct aircraft. I can recognise her.
