Midland Air Museum + Whitley bits

Hi all,

Has anyone of you on this forum ever laid eyes on the substantial Whitley bits that are located at the Midland Air Museum (don’t know if this is the right name)?

They supposedly have a tail section with empennage and a large chunk of wingsection, but I have never seen any photo’s of them.

Elliott, have you ever seen anything of these?

Cheers

Cees

I work in Whitley on what was the Armstrong Whitworth site. I know Siskins were built here, but were Whitleys also made on this site?

Hi Cees

Yes, I have been there a number of times. They are quite impressive and came from the same aircraft we recieved a wing from earlier this year.

We have a couple of potential digs lined up so watch this space 😉

The parts were still on display when I last visited a few years ago.

There was also a throttle box, labelled as Whitley, but actually from an Oxford, iirc.

I meant to point the error out but forgot. Perhaps someone from the museum will read this thread and alter the placard?

They are still in the Museum and are on show – quite a large section of wing – the museum itself is well worth a visit and overlooking the airport, you could hear classical music ( G-SIXC or G-APSA taking off!!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Cees,

I saw them many years ago – about 15 years I think, but dont have any pics I’m afraid. From memory, there was a rear fuselage, with tailplane, fins and some other parts. The Midland Warplane Museum also have some stuff.
