One of the WRG photographers just submitted his pics for the Midland airshow and I have put them online. They can be seen at http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/articles/airsho2004/index.htm

Nice variety of aircraft there Andy, and you certainly don’t look like you were enjoying your trip in Southern Cross.

Interesting note from the show….talked to Bill Greenwood who was there with his Spitfire…it seems that sometime during the show Butch Schroeder’s P-47 got hit by lightning! It broke the pavement just under the rudder of the Jug, but the Jug itself, aside from a small burn hole in the fabric at the top of the rudder, was basically unaffected (there is a small ground strap on the underside of the plane that Butch said was a few inches shorter)…a thorough checkout of all electronics in the plane and all electrical systems and a check flight revealed all to be right with the plane….it seems that the lightning did’nt even hit the metal at the top of the vertical fin…just the rudder itself, which is weird…
Just thought I’d share that…looks like a typical Midland mixed weekend otherwise, one nice day and one cruddy….

Andy, are you some form of celebrity in the States? Were the crowd thrilled that you’d waved at them like the Queen of England?
Oh Gawd!
A ‘tart in a jump suit’ behaving like a Queen.
Where will it all end?

Dunno if it’s just me, but Steve’s Fury looks “stretched” for some reason!!
(Probably just me – long day, too long looking at the Forum, etc etc!! ;))

The guy in the jump seat is wearing a very tight fitting growbag, the guy in the front looks like a Morris Dancer. 😉

Thanks, Andy. I guess the puddle underneath is the result of the blown o-ring?
Robbo
The puddle between the main gears is from someone else.
but you can just see hydraulic oil on the ground behind the trailing edge of the port wing.
Cheers

There aren’t any photos of Patty’s chariot – does anyone have any photos of Southern Cross on static, or the great man himself?
Your wish is my command oh Robbo.
Southern Cross at Midland TX on Saturday morning 2nd Oct.
Cold, dark skies, rain. Just like England really.
However it did improve in the afternoon.
