Whilst on farce book on one of the aircraft threads, A JU88 was mentioned to be in a pond at Woodbridge airbase and can be seen when the water is low…..
Any thoughts???

Well an unlikely possibility then!.
However close to where I live in hopwood reservoir south of Birmingham, rumour has it a “twin engined aircraft” is in there.
A chap who used to scuba dive did say there is one as he has seen it whilst diving.
I do know of 2 Wellingtons and an HE111 nearby as ground crashes so they are ruled out.
Interweb has drew a blank…

Other bombers may exist in other ponds;

The G-1 became TP190 in the RAF and was scrapped after storage at Sealand with no 47 MU

Hi All,
The Woodbridge JU88 ended up being scrapped in 45 sadly (Apendix 1 Top aircraft) Ref from our own Andy Saunders book Arrival Of Eagles..:eagerness: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=mpLPBQAAQBAJ&pg=PA164&lpg=PA164&dq=JU+88+47+MU+Sealand&source=bl&ots=uo5AH8n-xD&sig=ZpmxkyyaxXMMjWkvqk4cXCjLdn8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJu5-GpJ_WAhWXF8AKHcfQC0AQ6AEIRDAI#v=onepage&q=JU%2088%2047%20MU%20Sealand&f=false
This radio broadcast hosted by Michael Portillo featuring the story of the Woodbridge JU88 is quite a good and interesting listen…:eagerness:

Having said that, a Ju 88 was shot down on the 25th of June 1944 “at Wantisden Heath, 2 miles from Woodbridge”, and maybe the aircraft came down in water there?
Maybe it made its own pond when it came down? 😮

I was assigned to the command staff at Bentwaters/Woodbridge in the 80s and learned a great deal of its history, but that’s a new story for me.
Hardly conclusive I know, but if it was/is there, it certainly wasn’t well known.

A Ju 88 did land at Woodbridge on the 13th July 1944, apparently because the pilot was badly lost and thought he was near Berlin (lol?). As such he made a conventional, dry, landing.
I think an intact JU88, visible when the water was low in this pond, would be widely known about. Having said that, a Ju 88 was shot down on the 25th of June 1944 “at Wantisden Heath, 2 miles from Woodbridge”, and maybe the aircraft came down in water there?

Apart from the emergency fire tank to the north west, there is 2,1 to the west and oblong shape and a squarish one to the east. Google maps has not got the clarity but if you switch to terrain mode, they appear.

Maybe it’s that large ‘pond’ to the east?

Maybe they pushed this one into it after it mistakenly landed there and was captured – the report here makes interesting reading – https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/Ju_88_woodbridge.pdf
