Hi,
Last time i was at Milan Malpensa Airport and in the taxi on my way to the city i saw a Macchi C202/205 fighter just outside the Airport in what looked like a small museum.
I remember reading a short report on it a few months ago in either Flypast or Aeroplane, but am far away from my magstack..
I googled for it but can’t find any good details. Google mostly points me to the Science and Technology musem ‘Leonardo da Vinci’, but I think the Malpensa site is a different thing, or not?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I received a prompt and very kind reply from the museum:
We are just a few km from Malpensa Airport (by car exit between Terminal 2 and terminal 1 Somma Lombardo – Case Nuove) and a pedestrian ramp is planned for 2010 directly from terminal 1 (railway station).
At the moment we open a preview of the future museum (a covered area of 2800 mq is available)
with the first plane fliyng in Malpensa (The Caproni Ca.01 the unique and original one in
the world from 1910) and other important pieces of italian aeronautical history.
The English version of our website Volandia will be ready in january 2009 and I’m sorry for this but in the museum you will find all information in English too and you can click the link below for some English version info about our project.

We are open only for groups during the week (on demand) and we open to the public every Sunday from 10.00am to 6.00pm
Best regards and have a nice day

Should be a nice place once it’s properly developed.
By the way, the C.205 is a full size replica… possibly the one that was at Farnborough this year?

Hi Skybert,
I believe you’re refering to the ‘Volandia’ which is being built at the site of the old Caproni Warehouses. The full site is still being developed, but they opened a small taster of it which is what was covered in the magazine. There is some more information on the project on these sites:

I hope that helps
