A bit late update, but here are my photos from Milan Malpensa from september 20th.
The local spotters association Air Clipper organises two “Cipper Days” per year offering airside tours around Malpsensa. Unlike airside tours at most airports at this airside tour you are allowed to leave the bus. In fact we spend several hours alongside one of the main taxiways.
The weather was gorgeous as can be seen. As a disadvatange, half the photos had to be binned for heathaze. The place we where standing most of the time was a bit lower then the taxiway so heathaze leading to worse heathaze. Still, I would not have missed this for the world.
Despite the heathaze rant, the name on this aircraft is not blurry because of heathaze. The font really is shaped like this. Style over function, has to be Italian!
If you go here, don´t be surprised to see more Lufthansa planes then Italian planes. In fact, I saw more D- registered planes than I saw I- registered planes.
Nice retro, the only shot that worked out of … well, many. Heathaze!
I love the A330, and Malpense has a lot of them!
One out of many Lufthansa Italy planes. There are more Lufthansa-Italy planes then there are Alitalia. There are also more Easyjet planes then there are Alitalia planes.
One of two Alitalia widebodies. Alitalia does not have many flights to Malpensa anymore. I was told that until a few years ago Malpensa saw dozens of AZ flights a day.

Nice work, Peter. The Finnish retro has to be my personal pick of the bunch! 🙂

Excellent shots! What’s the cost of one these tours?
They are twice per year and you will have to sign up for them. They just opened “bookings” for the 2010 edition which will be held september 11th and 12th. Due to the overwhelming demand you can go only one day, not both. The costs, a measly 10 euro to cover the bus expenses. The Air Clipper association has arranged a special deal with a local hotel offering you a room with double bed for 70 euro. Not bad at all!
Although not quite the same, the Zürich tour was excellent. They run every few minutes, cost just €8.00 per person and last for around 45 minutes, stopping off along the way at numerous interesting parts of the airport. You can, however, only leave the bus at the grassy area next to the runway. Since Zürich’s viewing terrace is now closed, I am assuming that these tours no longer run. Does anybody know?
I have not been there since that terrace closed (the one one the satelite terminal is still open) but according to the Swissport website the tours are still going.
