Mildenhall open day 2009?

Chatting to American airmen at Newmarket, they told me there will be a 75th anniversary show at RAF Mildenhall this year. They said it would be public and not just a familys day. News anyone?

No probs Robbo – my own fault for not saying I was going.

I think I might have seen you there but was mid-way between catching up with an old colleague and working. Did you have a blue(?) Shuttleworth top on?

As Arm-waver for the Moth contingency it seemed to go quite well.
The Hornet Moth arrival was interesting deciding to go for a quick spin on the ground.

The 100ARW were really helpful in letting the Moths take off from the taxi-way into wind. Being that close for the take offs, in someways for me, brought a feeling of what the old events such as the air-race were like.

Been a good month Arm-Waving. C-17 at Abingdon and now on RAF Mildenhall…

A few blasts down the runway followed by high speed flypasts and then back to land by the modern mil,the UK-Aus re-enactment produced 21 assorted Tiger Moths,a Puss Moth,Hornet Moth,DH84 Dragon,M38 Messenger,Queen Bee,Leopard Moth and a trio of Chipmunks,oh and a Dragon Rapide plus a DH90 Dragonfly.

Majority of them landed however one or two decided that just a flypast would do due to the winds. We also had Spitfire MK356 from the BBMF do a decent display and P-51 G-BTCD.

I believe that the Moths attendance is very much weather dependant and believe a call will be made today on that side.

I know some of what will be there but rather not say at all as not sure if it is public but should be a nice little gathering – weather permitting.

May is the only month in 2009 to offer the 15th falling on a Friday

I had a quick look at the USAFE web site and came across this little gem

1/23/2009 – RAF MILDENHALL, England — The 47th Bomb Wing Association – a group of former military assigned to the 47th Bomb Wing at RAFs Sculthorpe and Alconbury — are donating a replica scale model of the B-45 Tornado Bomber to the American Air Museum at RAF Duxford with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m., May 15.

Not quite sure why they are donating a ‘replica scale model’ instead of a ‘scale model’, but whatever.

That’s correct, it’s a private event with no public access … but you could always look over from the spotting area at the west end of the runway.
