Hi all
Time ago I requested info about Miles G-AKGS crashed into Sierra Nevada Mountains, south Spain, on 1954.
After to be published my book about wrecksites in these mountains (12 accidents) I was able to found the wrecksite one month ago helped by a local man that used to play when a child searching little parts of the aircraft.
There are a lot of wood structure relics and fabric, and a cristal fragments of a bottle of Silvikrin hair tonic¡¡¡, curious.
Attched some pics.

Sorry, Michel. Clearly I’ve expressed myself badly. I’m sure that there’s no problem with attaching the accident reports. It’s just that some might have taken exception to a hyperlink to a website on which your book might be ordered. Although of recent times, such would be small fry compared to some of the advertising that is permitted – or, at least, condoned – on this forum!

Thank you, again, Michel for taking the trouble to post copies of the reports.
Assuming that the moderators don’t raise objection – on the ground that it is advertising – you may wish to post a hyperlink to the website (assuming that there is one) on which your book can be purchased by those who do not live in Spain.
Upss. I didn´t know that it isn´t allowed to attach reports´copies. Sorry. Next time I know it and I´ll send by personal message this items
Respect the book there are some bookstores in which its possible to order it, there isn´t a specific website. I think it´s better don´t post just one.

Thank you, Michel, for posting so much interesting information as well as the images. If you are able to scan and post the accident report I, for one, will be interested to read it.
You are wellcome. I will scan the report this weekend. At the moment I can post the little spanish report I requested to CIAIAC

In flight from Málaga to Carmolí (Murcia aerodrome), following the coast line, the airplane turned away the route surely with the intentión to reach Granada, due to the topographic track of the terrain where it crashed is similar and it has a pararel direction to Lanjarón Valley, over which the airplane would had have to flight for to go to Granada, crashing into the Sierra de Aral, next to Cañar, and burning immediately. There wasn´t visibility due the fog in the crash area. Crew was killed. Airplane destroyed

AJ Jackson’s photo archive has one of G-AKGR but unfortunately not of KGS. It might be useful for your records.
Thank you very much. I adquired a pic of G-AKPE to MAP and I have also included this pic of R.A. Scholefield

I think this paint scheme was typical in the Hawk Trainer 3, I have seen it in different pics, so I guess this is the paint that weared the aircraft at time of accident, silver with these red band (I suppose its red, as the fabric relics show).
Thanks again

Did you obtain copies of the British and/or Spanish accident reports? If so, what do they say as to the cause of the crash – or do we have to read your book to learn this?
Yes, thanks, I obtained the british report by the National Archives (that its the translated spanish report) and other little spanish report. Any of them mention the cause, although it seems that the pitot wasn´t cautious and followed the fligh route more dangerous, flying over the mountains in bad weather instead to follow the coast route, as they were advised by the air traffic controlled of Málaga airport. They was flying between Málaga and Murcia, both cities are placed in the south Spain coast. Other supposition says that the crew elected to fly to Granada, to the north, during the flight, and for that the aircraft crashed into de south face of Sierra Nevada; I don´t think in this last supposition. The report also mention that it seems the aircraft hadn´t engine failure before the crash cause local eyewitnes heard the engine noise (the weather was foggy) running good.
You can see the crashsite (red arrow) in this pic. Little village in the right is Cañar

I can scan the british report if you are interested in.
The pilot and passenger were american students in Oxford University and maybe they were on holidays because they were in Morocco before Spain flying in the same aircraft.
These are the all info that I was able to find about the accident, and the info published in the local newspapers about it.
Thank you very much for your help
