D’you know what I’ve never seen appear on the forum??
A MILES M.20 FIGHTER!
It’s actually quite a attractive little aircraft – would have been interesting to see how it would have fared in combat.

(Daz’s lightbulb appears over his head – hmmm… would make an interesting replica! :D)

I can confirm that there are no M.20 drawings at Hendon – theirs relate to the first Hawks & Hawk Majors and are largely of component details.

I certainly shall, though you might need to be patient!

Looks like a Miles Hawk to me, the pre-war version of the Magister. MMMMmmm.
I found a resin model of the Falcon in Sweden. In fact, a resin model of my actual aircraft in Swedish WW2 military colours.

Whoops, I meant Hawk. It’s these bird of prey names get me all the time, lucky I never worked for Rolls Royce, it would have been a disaster.
See http://www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Kiwi_Resins.htm for the full range.
Can’t wait for their Percival Mew Gull to come out – should be ready any time now

Check out www.Shuttleworth.org for display dates, let me know when you are coming and I’ll arrange to meet you – no problem to crawl over my aircraft. The best time would be during the morning of an evening display.
A lot of stuff is already out there on my aircraft – an hour on the Net will provide you with some good basic information.
A model of the Falcon – 1 x 6th scale I think, was featured recently in RC Model World. I’m looking forward to seeing that fly – the plan is very accurate too.

Plus the new 1/48 scale resin model from Kiwi Resin…

I think it was part of Aeroplane’s ‘Project: Cancelled’ series. If you can find the more recent Aeroplane (some time last year) with the article on the Miles M42 it has a reference to the earlier article…

The RAF Museum Department of Research and Information Services also holds several hundred Miles drawings. I’ve no idea if they include the M.20, but a quick ‘phone call to them should establish that.

There was a very good feature on the Miles M20 in Aeroplane monthly a little while ago. I’ll try to find the issue later.
Nick/Septic,
Aeroplane have featured the M.20 twice. Once circa 1978 ‘ish and more recently (1993 i think).
Septic, let us know if you dont succeed, as i can soon find my copies.
Cheers……

Thank you all!

I’m told by Mr. Neil Farley of Miles-aircraft.com that detailed design drawings of the Miles M.20 do not survive. I would like to find a schematic of the aircrafts interior layout, with particular reference as to the location of the fuel tanks and ammo boxes.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
Nick,

My mates grandfather actually helped build the M20 before going off to war in MTB’s.

I forgot to mention, the only man that could possibly know anything about this, and that is Peter Amos of the Miles Collection. That man is a walking encyclopedia of everything Miles, and many more things! He posts here every once in a while, so maybe he will see this thread.

To the best of my knowledge, Miles drawing hardly exist, at least not for a complete aircraft. I do know about drawings for a Gemini wing in New Zealand. The only complete drawing for a Miles I know about, are for a Withney Straight again in New Zealand.
I wish you all the luck in the world! But I’m afraid you are fighting an uphill battle to say the least.
On a slightly different note, if anyone knows if there ever was a (RAF) service Parts Catalouge for the Messenger, I would be most interested in tracking one down. I know! It is not the same as for the Gemini, but it is close enough for me, as at the moment I don’t have anything of the sort 🙁

May I suggest that you contact Julian Temple – Curator at the Brooklands Museum. He catalogued all of the surviving Miles archives, photos, drawings, production data, etc when it was “discovered” in a locked office at Woodley in the 1980s.
He would know what does or does not exist.
