Miles Master…

Hi all
I was just dreaming this afternoon while peeling the spuds for dinner tonight about, limitless funds, unbuilt projects, sunny days at OW and concluded that if I had all the above what a wonderful thing a replica Miles Master I would be.
So, assuming limitless funds etc how difficult would it be to produce one?
Do the drawings still exist for instance, how diificult would it be to source a Kestrel? Is the construction method now lost to history? what glue would be used and is there a modern substitute?
All ‘Pie-in-the-sky’ stuff but just think, Lovely Summers afternoon, Old Warden, Kestrel powered monoplane curving round the bend.
Well, it’s not a bad dream is it??

PS It’s sounds like an infinitely more practical use of funds than some of the other non starters I’ve seen posted here lately.

Thanks indeed to Cestrian. During the early 80s (and probably before), the Student lived in the Loganair hangar at GLA. It was operated (and I think owned by) Duncan McIntosh, Loganair’s MD. It flew very rarely…I only saw it airborne once in five years.

Nice to see some progress on the Miles Student, last time I saw it it was looking a little sorry for itself at Duxford. I remember it arriving there in 84/85. Love to see some more pics of it if there are any around.

As Robbo and others have said, a superb day out, nice lunch followed by a trip round the museum. A cracking little goldmine of a place, I would recommend it to any one in the area.

Hi all
I just want to concur with what’s been written above.
A grand day out and I think enjoyed by all.
It was good to meet OAG and Aero51 who made our visit particularly interesting.
I think they’ll agree that all new attendees to forum meets are made very welcome.
I’ll certainly make a return visit to Woodley in due course.

HUGE THANKS to Aero51 for the museum visit. It was fascinating and educational. You will certainly be excluded from any future ‘Malcolm Hood’ Quizzes!

Great choice of pub/restaurant, although your choice of friends was a little iffy 😀 .

If anyone hasn’t been, I can definitely recommend it.

Thanks to MOTF and Robbo for rallying us all over there. Looking forward to the photos.
