I was just playing arround with Maps Google today & found something pretty intresting.
But in Norfolk in the search bar, then
then scrawl 2 up & soom into the Naval Base & change to Sat view only.
You well find 2 carriers, some AB, some ticos, some Perrys, 1 LHA, 1 LHD, some subs,…
Who else has found some intresting stuff on Maps Google?

Yes, Palmdale, there are a load of aircraft there, if you scroll around the various ramps.
Take a look at AMARC/Monthan, it is amazing to see all of the aircraft parked up, and very sad to see all the B-52s losing their wings.

All of those are at Palmdale, check this thread out (maybe I should merge all these 😀 ):

Very interesting…….I live just north of Mac Dill AFB (i.e. US Central Command) in Tampa, Florida. I easily found my home in about 60 sec. Makes you wonder how much detail a Spy Satellite would show????

Anyone had any luck finding Minsk World? I’ve found the Varyag in Dalian, but can’t locate Minsk World and it’s getting really annoying!

If you type “Rio de Janerio” in the search bar, it will take you almost on top of the Arsenal de Marina of the brasilian navy. MB Sao Paolo (Ex-Foch) and MB Minas Gerais (Ex Venerable or something) along with half a dozen Niterois and Inhaumas.

If you type Lima, it will take you close to El Callao, scrolling around you may be able to find almost the entire peruvian fleet in harbour.

I’ve located every existing Blackbird, found a Russian S-300 site (see the Missiles forum), found a bunch of aircraft, a U-2 in flight, an Iranian SA-5 site, various ships, a bunch of places I’ve lived or visited…Google Earth is awesome 😎

I have to say, some of the Aussie defence purchases are pretty good, the new carriers look like they are going to be quite good. I also like the F-111s, it might have been nice to simply have a joint UK-Aussie program, rather than Tornado, we could have received a mix of F/A-18s and F-111s… Talk about punching above your weight!

Sounds interesting guys, I’ll look into it.
Ed, We have a nice place down here but sadly it’s run by morons who pull the strings of the puppets that we think we are ellecting but all ellections are fixed and we all know it!
I’d be interested in having a look at the dead man’s zone in Cyprus, sure the DMZ is interesting but the DMZ in Cyprus actually has an airport in it.

I was using Google Earth, Erez, It’s basically the same thing, just repackaged.
I took a look at various bits of Australia, just for interest, looks like a nice place Ja.
If you look carefully, you can make out the DMZ in Korea, including some North Korean facilities.
Yes I know, but Google Earth also provides you with actual terrain level, some 3D models, 3D views on the planet and other useful information.

Instead of just using these sattelite pictures, you might found Google’s “Google Earth” program better for you.

after having a bit of a play with it I can see Australia, but the coverage isn’t the best. As you say, the result will improve over time 😉
By: EdLaw - 25th July 2005 at 15:33
I guess Google maps will slowly improve its coverage – I can just about make out the general area I live in the UK, but I can make out individual cars in the US, where I used to be.
