One of the fascinating stories I’ve inherited on taking over the Luton website http://www.lutonminor.com (shameless plug!!) is an intriguing tale of a WW2 Military Luton Minor.
Previous website custodian Mike Edwards received an email from an Australian chap, which unfortunately he lost, because his laptop went bang in Xmas 2001.
His late grandfather (or father) owned a Minor which he believed got impressed into the Australian Air Force for a brief time. For the past five years we’ve been trying to corroborate (good Australian word, that) this story, hoping we’d receive a follow-up email from the chap – or indeed from anyone else who can shed light on this story. It would probably be the only Minor that has ever seen military service.
Antipodean Minor owner Peter Boreham believes that the aeroplane was built in Perth WA in 1938 and was used as a “hack” until it was damaged or fell into disrepair. Anyone know the full story?
I wonder if it carried camouflage? Now there’s a prospect!! Not to mention an opportunity for all those Photoshop experts out there! 😎

GASML, I have finally found my copy of Ross Gillett’s book “Australia’s Military Aircraft” which claims to be the “First ever complete analysis of all the aircraft that have served with Australia’s Army, Navy and Air Force.” (1987, Aerospace Publications Pty Ltd)
There is not mention of a Luton minor in Australian service. This book covers all the impressed civil aircraft too. So either Gillett missed this aircraft in his ‘complete analysis’ or the story is pie in the sky?
