Hey all,
After nagging my dad to do my first motorway journey (after passing my test some 2 months ago) we decided to go to East Midlands airport late at night for the cargo :diablo: We left Leeds around 6pm and with me at the controls bombed it down the M1 😮 …
Traffic wise at East Mids is spot on, on a evening you get alot of various amounts of cargo airlines, DHL have a hub and a whole ramp to them selfs located at the western side of the airfield. Much traffic was seen including Star Air (B762) UPS (B763) TNT (A300 and 146) Jet2 (B733) Atlantic (ATP) and French Airpost (B733). The ramp these part on is the eastern ramp and is very hard to get night shots of on, unless you want to leave your car and go on a treck! Anyway on with the spots ….

Spot 1
Spot 1 is located just after the maintenance area, brilliant views across the first 4 stands of the DHL ramp and these stands are mostly used during the night. They is only one thing about this spot, its used by alot of vans/lorrys from what i could see and your not suppose to park there, but during the night they is no one about, but just in case be careful and keep a eye out 🙂

If anyone wants times on what DHl stuff is due, give me a pm and i will happily send you a little list threw if i can 🙂
Spot 2
This spot is located at the western side of the DHL ramp, if you have a car and fancy getting a few images from this side, you will have to park around the approach up in the gates and walk down. I got lucky here, when i arrived the Icelandair cargo B752 was about to go, but threw the day to about 8pm this spot can be dead!

Spot 3
Anything parked around stand 120’s on the DHl ramp is shoot able, i prefer to come to this spot in summer around 6/7pm when the light is on your side. If your just a spotter or wanna watch aircraft this is a great spot as you wont miss a thing 😎

If your not the most patience person in the world then EMA isnt for you at night. You can do alot of waiting as flights do come early and late. I was waiting 30 minutes for the Bluebird to arrive and almost gave up on it. Hope you enjoyed my mini report 😀
Danny.

Hey … I think that mini report is a very good idea ? the map showing best spotting / photo positions is brilliant …. I think it would be good for someone from each of the various airports / airfields who regularly post here to, at sometime, make up, and post a similar google earth map with points to view marked ?? for their own local, to aid other visitors ! this could be included in a post, as above, with other photos. ????
Without a shadow of a doubt, thats a great idea! It will help for oversea’s airports too, ones where not familiar with, for example i had trouble at Milan Malpensa when i went there 🙁 I shall do a similar report in about 2 weeks when i get back from Furtventura 😀
Many thanks for the comment Keith 😀
