Looks like the guys up at Elvington will be getting a Mirage IV soon. They tweeted this earlier..
It’s coming!! Mirage IV no longer an illusion!
A great acquisition, no doubt.

….but living in the US there are few French jets on display.
You’re right.
If the French are releasing a few IVs, hopefully Pima will get one.
It has the room for one, and it would be a great addition to its collection of international types. It would be fun to see it near the B-58.
Too bad they don’t have a Vulcan or Victor.

Great news! Always wanted to see one, but living in the US there are few French jets on display.

Two years on and the aircraft is finally being delivered ,arriving tonight. Congratulations to YAM and its team who persevered and have brought this project to a satisfactory conclusion….really well done. Look forward now to seeing it assembled and some advice on how to move a Mi-6!

MirageIV to Yorkshire Air Museum
Roger I believe it is being assembled by the French on arrival. But looking after her after that shouldn’t be too big a problem. We have some very good engineers on site these days as you can see by the amount of live aircraft we now operate. But the tow bar point I do know what you mean!

This looks like a repeat of a very similar story way back in 1995-96. If and when it arrives who is going to put it together and make it a presentable aircraft ..”Hope when it arrives it has a tow bar etc

This is fantastic News and I am sure it will give me (And many others) a reason for an overdue re visit.
Well done Elvington. Photo shot Victor And Mirage 1V anyone

To my knowledge it won’t be in a taxi-able state.
By: Trenchardbrat - 18th April 2015 at 21:57
This Aircraft was promised back in 1995 when I and others went and collected 538. I don’t think that it will be taxyable as the French made sure that we could do nothing with 538. So I presume their policy has not changed. We had one in at RAF Marham in the 1970’s and could not get near it

Any talk of a further hangar to get some of this undercover?

YAM has the only Mirage III in this country. and indeed has close ties with the french. one of the museums vice presidents is the head of the french airforce. The ties goes back to Elvington being home to a french bomber squadron during the war.

YAM have close ties with various French organisations. 🙂
By: heli1 - 17th December 2013 at 18:34
One reason why French aircraft are uncommon in UK museums is because it is so difficult to find out who to talk to and who can make decisions. Be interesting to know how YAM broke through ” le tape rouge “.
