“Flapjack” has confirmed that his mistress is for sale, although he has not advertised her yet. The end of an era – one of my favourite pilots and favourite aircraft on the airshow circuit. That combination will be missed by many.

As it happens BM, against all the odds, there are very serious and advanced talks between the CAA and ‘industry’ representatives (HAA and others) to promote ‘Venture aviation’ along the lines of Part 115 of the New Zealand regulatory framework, whereby you can now pay for rides in Spits, P40’s, Mustangs etc, and this was seen to happen at Wanaka this year.
This is not ‘bar talk’ or ‘blue sky thinking’, but a rapidly advancing dialogue which could reasonably see warbird rides in B.17, Catalina and fighters within 24 months or less.
There are a lot of changes presently going on in the CAA, where change has been forced upon them, and new staff appointments have brought with them new attitudes and a willingness to promote Venture aviation within the UK.The sad Mustang loss in Texas will not help this momentum, but those parties promoting these changes are very motivated to make it happen, and the omens are very promising.
Prop strike I am fully aware of the motions that are happening and have Ben party to the proposals. However even if these talks come to fruision, which I do hope they do, they will not allow for you to drop into an airfield in your Stearman or Tiger Moth and set up your stall to sell rides, nor should they. The aircraft that can be used for ” air experience” is the main thrust, some form of AOC operation will still be required.

Yes I’m sure they did Mike, however doing it like that in the USA is a completely different thing to flying rides here in the UK. Believe me when I say that the profit margin for companies like Classic Wings by the time all the relevant fee’s to CAA etc have been paid is very very small. They type of ride’s you describe will never be allowed legally here in the UK. Sadly the events yesterday in the US will probably mean some questions are asked there as well.

Very sad to hear it – thanks Flapjack for those memorable displays.
I was standing on Beechy Head earlier this year and got the life scared out of me by Miss Demeanour as Jonathan crept up on us and buzzed the cliffs. An experience I’ll never forget.
Beautiful aircraft!
This was the second pass:

Aside from those two photographs, when I shut my eyes I can still see that silver tailpipe and the fire deep inside it as she flew away from the cliff, towards the display line at Eastbourne. And Christ, the noise!

Why “Flapjack”? Anybody know the reason?

The Hunter was stripped and repainted about three years ago at Hurn, Dorset by Terry Caston and the team at Aviation Paint Ltd
With Robin the original painter as consultant

Flapjack did the design with the help of painter Robin Carpenter.

Thanks Martin and Black Knight, it was certainly a labour of love to get it so right. Perhaps now he’s got some time on his hands he could do a scheme for one of the many Spitfires that are around! (Did I say that).

I’m sure it’s been discussed before but who designed the colour scheme for ” Miss Demeanour”?

I’d love to have seen this lady flying but I don’t get to airshows these days. Just need to win the lottery tomorrow night now 🙂

I’m pretty gutted to see Flapjack retire. The displays were always a highlight and looked good come rain or shine. I’d love to be at Al Ain to see him put Miss D through her paces for the last time!
There were a couple of 2 seat Hunters Flying a North Weald Airfield about 3 weeks ago on the saturday , not sure but i think they are based there now ,lovely to see from the saturday market side of the Airfield ,any one know the fuel cost to fly a Hunter for 1 hour ??
That’ll be WV372 (G-BXFI) and WV318 (G-FFOX). Both T7s are now based at North Weald and seem to be flying fairly regularly. WV322 (G-BZSE) is also in pieces in a hangar at NW and I believe the plan is to eventually get it in the air.
