:diablo: Curious re the Iranian ‘new’ anti-ship missile called Ra’ad. It’s basically a jet powered deriative of the Styx/HY-2 “Silkworm” family, possibly also directly related to the North Korean KN-01 missile.
Claimed stats:
350km range
350m/s speed (about Mach 1.1)

What gets me is the supersonic claim. Surely it has conventional fixed tailplanes so that means it wouldn’t be able to control pitch at supersonic speeds?
Please help clarify the credibility of the speed and range claims. Plus any background info yopu have would be most appreciated.

It looks quite different from the Chinese version of the jet powered Styx, called the C-301 code name Kraken. The Kraken has its intake underneath, and does not claim supersonic speed.

The speed of sound (Mach 1) is approximately 343 m/s, 1,087 ft/s, 761 mph or 1,235 km/h in air at sea level. Anything over this is said to be supersonic.
This thing apparently can do 350 m/s (1260 km/h), which would be just barely supersonic. However, it doesn’t say at what altitude or at what flight profile (dive?)…

No one able to give me a quick lesson in transonics as they relate to the HY-7/Styx/Ra’ad? 🙁
