Missing British Maritimers…

Taking the ‘missing a/c’ thread idea, what about ALL those British maritiime aircraft that we don’t have anymore? It’s a crying shame that there is not a single marine a/c flying worldwide of British origin (or is there?)

One that was ‘preserved’ before being destroyed is this one –
What?
Where? &
When?
(And the regie is wrong btw – that would be TOO easy…)

Oh, and you can include Spitfires if you must – those Mk.V and IX’s on floats could’ve been preserved (or recreated – now THERE’s an idea!)

Daz,

The malicious reporting? Just the Mirror’s gossip columnist getting stuck into Mr Hulton for having a ‘White Elephant’. and other nastier remarks. Their nature, and the columnist’s name I’m pleased to say I can’t remember, having better things to do with my life.

A white elephant in a blue circle subsequently apeared on the tail of the aircraft…
Cheers

John Cooper,

I guess you were too excited to read the caption. 🙂

It is the Tower Bridge in London by the way. 🙂

Edward Hulton, a very British milionare, sold it, in part, thanks to malicious spiteful reporting by the Daily Mirror (a very British newspaper) among others.

What was that, if I may ask?

Only ever saw Sunderland once and it really annoys me to know she in USA and not flying what a waste.

I believe the last time she flew was 1996, could be wrong though.

I can’t see why kermit buys flightworthy aircraft like Sunderland and mossie then not fly them

Edward Hulton was a millionaire when he bought the Sunderland.

By the time it had finished with him, I’m not sure he was!

David Burke,
You may claim your prize! Thank you. Also thank you for diverting us out of the Spitfire ‘rut’ (though I did ask for it – it’s OK Daz :p )

Poor isn’t it! So, a maritime race, on an island, with a glorious maritime heritage, and not even one historic amphibian.

Coupla Grumman Geese passed through, plus a Tiger on floats in the 70s, and a Beaver or two, but British? Nah.

Any other pis? Thought we’d have a Princess pass through by now…

Only 2 questions for you DAZ

1 where do you fly it?

and

2 When can I see it?

Guess it’s the Supermarine Sea Eagle that was burnt in 1954.
Her real registration was G-EBGR – she was painted as ‘ES’.
She was preserved by BOAC from 1949 – storage problems at Heston spelled her end .
