I just have a question or 2 abou8t missing connecting flights.
Im not somebody whos stupid enough to book connecting flights with a LCC carrier but earlier this year I booked our flight from Dublin to Alicante via Barcelona because it was a whole lot cheaper.
However looking recently at Iberias punctuality on the DUB-BCN route it isnt too good.I know its accurate because I see the flight departing every day about 20-25 minutes later than normal.
Last week I recieved an email from Iberia and after contacting them they have cut a further 5 minutes off our 50 minute connection time.
Now my question is Iberia as a national carrier and who do offer connecting flights if we do miss our connection what will they do?
Will they put us on the next flight or leave us having to sort it out ourselves and secondly if we miss our connection what happens to our bags? Will they be automatically transfered onto next flight and how often can bag connections go wrong?
Thanks for your help.

We dont have to change terminals and there is 2 flights to ALC after our one so hopfully there will be 5 seats between the 2 if things go wrong.

Shamrock, some things to bear in mind.
If an airline accepts a connecting booking, it will be confident that the connection will be achieved assuming everything goes to plan. So I would expect it to go according to plan, rather than not to.
A 25 minute delay to departure seldom means a 25 minute delay to arrival as the schedules allow time to cushion delays.
Transferring at BCN is a quick process, even if you have to change terminal, as the terminals are effectively all in one building.
If you do miss your connection on a full service carrier and the delay is the airlines fault (eg tech problems), they will almost certainly look after you. If it isn’t their fault (eg ATC), they may not as they are not obliged to.
Rebooking onto a later flight depends on seats being available. The next available flight may not be the next flight.
Relax and enjoy,
John.

I wouldn’t have too much confidence in Iberia ref. connecting flights. I flew MAN-BCN in April..2.5 hr delay(Fortunately I was only going to BCN but would certainly have missed onward flight). Then flew LIS-MAD in June..1.5 hr delay..fortunately BA held their B767 at MAD to wait for the @80 passengers connecting.

In a tight situation like that I always explain my predicament to the cabin crew before landing, who usually manage to help, by alerting staff at the destination airport.
However I did once spend 8 hours at Basle waiting, after a missed connection with a scheduled airline (Swissair) and not even a lunch voucher! When the departure aircraft finally arrived it went tech and it was another hour before its replacement arrived to finally take us home!

Cool thanks because it looks as though we will miss the connecting flight with the next one 6 hours later at 2000.Fingers crossed.
Will we have to check in again ?

If the carrier is selling connecting flights, then they have to arrange another onward flight for you, on the next available flight. This is why the LCCs don’t offer connections.
As for your bags, they should be offloaded in BCN if you miss your connection.
