Agree with SanDiego, I have dived on wreck sites of ships where the scattered remains have been mistaken for unexploded munitions. From Wiki ” TNT can be detonated with a high velocity initiator or by efficient concussion.” like hitting the surface of the sea at terminal velocity?

There is a book about this B-36 crash. which I bought in Canada a few years ago. Worth a look, though it is heavy on conspiracy theory. Anyone know this one? Sadly I lost it before I got back to the UK.

I’d agree, look at “shapes” of the period, they don’t look like what the person described.
Probably a guy adding 1+1 and coming up with 3.

My bet would be on a boiler, settling tank or some sort of ship wreckage. He reported a large flat surface with numerous bolts, which could be half of a improved fat man, but also lots of other things. Also the crew reported an explosion/flash (conventional) when the jettisoned bomb hit the surface.

Although a ‘real nuke’ apparently it has no fissionable material (is that right?) inside, it only ‘TNT’…
…so while it may go bang, I’m pretty sure most of us will be safe!
