A week before this year’s Market Garden memorial parachute jump, the remains of a British soldier/paratrooper have been found in Ede, The Netherlands. His remains were accidently unearthed by a metal detector enthousiast, and have been reported and recovered by authorities. Officials assume he is one of a group of soldiers who were dropped there on September 18th, 1944, 68 years ago today…

A rough translation:
On Ginkel Heath near Ede today the remains of a British soldier from World War II recovered. The remains were found this weekend with a metal detector. Two hand grenades were found on the debris layers.
The explosives were detonated on the spot, after the remains were removed.
Defense assumes that the soldier belonged to a group of soldiers on September 18, 1944 were dropped over the heath. The British authorities have been informed of the discovery.
The remains will be transferred to a laboratory of the Salvage and Identification Service in Soesterberg. There, they hope
to identity the soldier.
According to Defense, it is a remarkable find because in less than a week the annual commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem place. On the find location then take hundreds of paratroopers participated in a memorial jump.
