My kind of “trip report”
The last train from Copenhagen to Gothenburg departed this evening at 18:23. At 18:23:30 I dashed on to the platform to see it shrinking into the distance.
Ho hum, there’s an airport (Kastrup) just down the road . . .
An hour later and 200 quid lighter I was settling into seat 2A on the MD-87 ready for my 40 minute flight.
Here are some of the snaps I took (the sun had set by the time we took off, sorry about the poor lighting!), also all pix are through the (quite clean) window.
I was intrigued (first pic) by the peculiar stepladder that seems to give access to the wing, never seen one of those before – can anyone tell me what it would be used for?

Regarding the ladder, it must have been in use for something other than ice inspection – it had been a very warm clear sunny day, as beautiful as only Scandinavia can be in spring!
Indeed, I forgot that it’s actually April now! 😀 But normally it’s used for clear ice inspection. This time it might have been for whatever inspection, it’s a great invention that ladder design.

Thanks, Sonnenflieger, I’ve kept a low profile lately due to pressure of work – and one result of my CPH visit was a request by my client there to double my workload!

The stepladder is for a technician to walk up on the wing to inspect for clear ice which has a tendency to gather near the wing root below certain temperatures. That’s was caused an SAS MD-81 to crash after takeoff from Stockholm in 1991… great pics and nice to see you back on the forum, Papa Lima!

Ren, I rarely visit Landvetter (the main Gothenburg airport) these days, so I can’t really judge the level of movements there, some of the other posters on this Forum seem to have detailed access to airport movements on-line, better seek their advice!
The other airport, which I use for Ryanair, at Säve sees I think 4 commercial movements per day – all Ryanair – not much for a spotter!
I shall be travelling from Säve myself on May 6 to Prestwick, being picked up there to visit a friend on the Isle of Arran. Not worth any kind of trip report, though, fight my way on, read a newspaper, get off and out of the airport as quickly as possible! If however there is anything interesting (aircraft, that is) at Prestwick to photograph, where is the best vantage point (if any)?

I think the MD80, like most modern aircraft, is refueled from underneath, maybe the ladder is for fuel measuring by dipstick
Yea Steve, this is known as pressure refuelling and is the norm, however an alternative if there is a problem with the Pressure refuelling system is to fuel from the top of the wing instead. Could be the reason.

What’s Gothenburg like for traffic PL ? Still thinking of doing a wee trip over the spring/summer?

Passengers get on and off using them steps. I used them last year on a IB MD-88.
The airstair under the rear fuselage you mean ? Not the inspection ladder over the wing as pictured.
