March 3, 1943.
In the surroundings of Schiphol / Vijfhuizen (holland) some spitfires are on mission to search for Germans, the probably took a boat under fire.
Some bullets did miss the targed and hit a old lady in a house near to the target. Unfortunately, the lady did not survive the accident.
Which unit / mission could be responsible for this incident?

Added to which ‘Spitfire’ became the generic term for any fighter with a roundel on it.
I could well have been a Tempest or Typhoon, or a Mustang. And that’s assuming that it did indeed carry a roundel.
It is certainly worth asking the question here, much information has been turned up from far flimsier starting points, but I doubt this has an serious chance of a successful conclusion.

Again Vin, I think you are asking the impossible, or at least the improbable.
There were probably hundreds of Spitfires operating over Holland that day. Again you would need to trawl through the Group and Squadron Operational Record Books to find which Squadrons may have been operating in that area. Should you find the Squadron, a not inconsiderable task, then the ORB will probably mention that several individual aircraft opened fire on a boat in the area. But how do you then identify which pilot was responsible for the tragedy with the old lady?
