Mitsubishi Zero OFMC

What ever happened to the Zero that was imported by the OFMC at Duxford in 1997, why hasn’t it flown yet ??

Not certain but I think the “import problem” was who should have paid for the transport ex Russia.

Location wise it was at Chino in March and had been since leaving Duxford. If I recall correctly it was one of the Flight Magic / David Price projects which were rebuilt in Russia somewhere and powered by an American engine, the story at the time was that it was ‘resting’ here for a time due to an import problem between Russia and America.

There’s the rather tattered remains of a Zero in Hangar 5 at Duxford, which were recovered some years ago and are due to be restored to static for IWM.

However I think you’re probably referring to the one which was seen dismantled in Hangar 3 some years ago, unpainted outside but light green inside, the wings and centre section spent most of their time sitting on the firewall. Unfortunately I have no idea of this aeoplane’s identity, or it’s current status or location, except that it’s not at Duxford any more, and I don’t believe it belongs to OFMC.

Sorry. Lot of rambling, for very little gain…

This has been covered before elsewhere on here, however in a nutshell it was sold to an American collector who has had it worked on periodically since and I’m sure in the fullness of time it will fly.
