MJ772 bent. Again…?

There’s a thread running on the Flyer forum which suggest that Spitfire MJ772 landed downwind last week and ended up bent and closing Biggin Hill’s runway?

There has in the Uk been a long dislike of the cheaper end of flying by those who seek profits. The unspoken long term aim of commercial airports is to push out GA as its not making enough money. This is done by making usage fees high in the same way that high pricing is used in many UK venues to keep out the un wanted without breaking laws. Even in North Scotland I see a slow growth in grass strips ( not the grass but usage) where like minded enthusiasts strive to keep access open for all eg glider clubs, syndicates, cost sharing.

Reading the link, what’s equally as interesting as the Spitfire incident is the hoo-ha evidently going on with GA. Seems if you’re an operator there is plenty to talk about. All I usually do is go to the café and enjoy what’s on the apron. Talking of which, I’ve noticed there is a lot more kids themed play-park activity near to bring in the punters (Barton, North Weald). Can’t be bad for encouraging air-mindless. Sorry for the thread drift.

Could someone pass on the reason why the engine failed on this aircraft a few years ago leading to its landing in a field near Woodchurch. The AAIB report that I found has no details…..

And she needs to stay un-bent so she can help escort the Daks to Normandy in June.

G-AVAV/MJ772 seems to be out and about from Biggin right now looking at FR24… whatever the damage was, it must have been relatively minor. Hurrah!

It was certainly taking off on 03 and landing on 21 while I was watching it from nearby earlier on 23rd which was the day it allegedly happened. Wind was easterly, pretty much a crosswind I would have thought.

G-AVAV was pretty busy doing rides up until about 6pm on Tuesday, G-BMSB has taken over again since then.

Great shame.
