Alledgedly the Spitfire that Sir Tim Wallis screwed himself up in a number of years ago, this plane is supposedly being restored by a company called AvSpecs and after that is supposed to come here to a new owner in Colorado….can anyone shed more light on the potential new owner and can anyone provide pics?
Much appreciated-
Mark

From memory AvSpecs had facilities in both Rotorua and Ardmore for a while, but they were merged into one place at Ardmore a few years ago. So the wings may have been at Ardmore.

I had the chance to see the plane during my short visit to NZ in Feb 2000, thanks to my friend Glenn White.

At the time, the plane was at Rotorua, and I think the guys told us they were working on the left wing (or maybe the wings were restored elsewhere, as I took no pictures of them, can’t remember).

According to the Avspecs website it is still owned by Paul Page

When I first read of it changing to the Cambridge based company it was listed in the “Changes of Ownership” gazette in Classic Wings (or perhaps Pacific Wings).
I think Dad knows the guy who runs that company here in Cambridge. If it is the same chap, I believe he is an accountant. So as you say, probably just tax purposes. I’ll see if I can find out something.
Originally when it was bought from the insurers it was a joint ownership between Paul Page and Brian Hare of Hamilton, NZ. I think he worked at Pacific Aerospace or one of the Hamilton Airport based companies. So whether it does go to the USA if they’re still the owners is also debatable, but sadly probably inevitable.
It is still on the NZ register I note.
As it is being repaired in NZ I guess there’s not muh chance of it ever returning to the UK.

NH799
Actually it looks like from here the guy in Colorado may no longer own it???

I knew this passed into the hands of a company here in Cambridge a few years back, but I don’t know if they still own it? Mark?
Dave,
I tend to work with ‘custodianship’ rather than ‘ownership’. With big expensive toys, ownership can be obscure – tax efficient and shrouded ‘off shore’ operations etc.
I have on my data base Paul Page as the name in the box, but there may have been changes.
My feeling is that this one is on the back burner, time is rolling along and not too much is happening.

Yes it is under restoration with AvSpecs at Ardmore, here in New Zealand. It has been there a very long time. I can’t recall the owner’s name off hand but it is public knowledge. Mark12 will know.
Here’s a photo of the fuselage on display at the February 2003 Ardmore Airshow.
