Mk 21 Bristol Freighter pics

I was doing a bit of volunteer work at the RAAF Museum in Point Cook, Victoria a while ago. While I was outside having smoko, I noticed the Bristol Freighter was open for some reason or another.

Like any good propeller-head, I keep a camera in the car, so having gained access to the cockpit, I got the attached pics.

I thought they might be of interest or use to somebody. The RAAF Freighter, I believe, is the only survivng Mk 21 in the world.

Enjoy!

They did have one in the UK display circuit but regrettably it crashed:(

There was talk of bringing the only airworthy one back to the UK but that seems to have fallen through

Cracking shots, nice to able to look around the cockpit.
It a disgrace that such a major type as the Freighter / Weyfarer isn’t on display in any major UK collection.

That is indeed the only Mk.21 and was in service along with another that crashed, for many years after all other 21’s had be scrapped.

It’s last operater was Air Express who also operated the Mk.31 preserved at Moorabbin.

Apart from a Mk. 1 in Argentina all other survivors are Mk.31.

All the marks were operated extensively in Europe with the long nose Superfreighter only ever flying for operators in Belgium, Canada, France as well as the UK

Nice shots of a very unusual aircraft. AFAIK we only had the long nosed variant in Europe.. It even carries its Air Express call sign Sierra-Juliet-Golf on the instrument panel!
Thanks!
