Mk. Hurricane exhausts

All

Any one have any leads on a set of Mk1 Hurricane exhausts? The Finns require them for their Hurricane HC 452

I have so far tried the BBMF, RAFM and several others. Shuttleworth MAY be able to help with photos and drawings.
A Swedish company makes Huricane exhausts, but these cost more than a meagre museum volunteer budget can afford.

Mk.I’s had a so called triple ejector exhausts with nozzle outlet fitted.

If any body has even one that would be a start, as the team can duplicate them.

What have you?

TIA

As with all of us price is very much to the fore of what we seek for our respective projects, have you considered contacting the companies which produce the fibre glass replicas?

Antti

Yes, we are looking for early ejector type exhausts, or drawings to replicate them.

Antti,
I have sent a PM on a different but related matter.
Regarding the exhausts, I assume you might already have tried Hawker Restorations and Retro Track and Air?

Hello everyone

Yes, we are looking for early ejector type exhausts, or drawings to replicate them. Swedish company Scantech makes airworthy sets and that’s why the cost is astronomical for the static museum conservation. We do not run by volunteers, but small professional conservation team and our budget is limited.
We already have a cooperative who possibly could do the job, but they also need drawings or model to start with.
There were mock-up exhausts few years back, but made from cardboard or some sheet metal and they were quite poor.
The original Merlin III with it’s exhausts from our Hurricane has truly vanished in time. there has been rumours that it was loaned to some agricultural fair in the 50’s and never returned. At that time the Hurricane was stored in old hangar at Vesivehmaa airfield. Fortunately we already got a new Merlin III installed, but the exhausts are still missing.

Maybe a daft question but what happened to the exhaust stubs that was already on the Finnish Hurricane?. If its the museum one that i`m thinking of, it had a correct set already fitted.

Hello Dave,

If they are the same as the ‘Baby’ Spit exhausts then each segment is different as the ejector tubes are all angled differently from what I recall so they will need a full set from one side to pattern from if they are going to have any chance at all.

Pic attached of ‘213’s port side for reference, shame I havent got a shot from top-down.

If they are going to make them they will need a large press of some sort to form the Inconel to shape over formers.

Cheers

Tom
