We are looking to paint our MkVIII Spitfire Full scale replica. I know there is a lot of expertise on this forum when it comes to Wartime aircraft markings and would welcome some suggestions as to paint scheme’s, marking’s ect. We are running a competition at this link if you want to make a contribution. 🙂

Hi Graham. Hows it coming along . Do you have an update for us.
Cant wait:)
Rudder has been fitted amd steering tail wheel all rigged, along with the front top cowling , the side panels and tail plane have been rubbed down and prepared for paint. Just a few more things to sort and then a full rub down ready for paint. Still on track to display late this season.

Mk VIII Spitfire Colour scheme
Afraid I don’t have a scheme for a Mk VIII, but facing the wrath of Mk VIII fans all I can come up with is to fit a set of high altitude wingtips, mid grey upper & azure blue lower surfaces and a set of D-Day stripes, give her the codes YQ-G, Serial No MD121 & hey presto!!! the only Spitfire in 616 Squadron colours.
I appologise now if it is no help, its just a suggestion, but overall it is quite a colourful scheme.Either way best of luck with the project, please thead some photo’s when she is complete.

Paint scheme
Well done indeed. I havent posted for a while been busy as you can imagine. We have finished the cooling system oil and fuel tanks are about to be fitted next week, all the prep work for that is done. I hope you like you U/C leg 🙂
Need all the help i can get with the paint and marking colours. I have found one in a book by E B Morgan and Edward Shacklady. There are quite a few kits that might yeald up a paint match but which one to truct, here are a couple of examples that look totally different shades. You will get your go in her this Summer Ben, bring your ear plugs::diablo:

I can see why the colour scheme of 457 Squadron appeals with the shark mouth and there are some good looking 152 Squadron aircraft in Bengal but as yours is based in the South of England would 145 Squadron ZX- or 417 RCAF AN- in Italy not be more suitable.
I have voted on your page.
I have to go with the most votes, appreciate the comments. Would like to see some more entries. That Grey Goose is a very good looking Spit though.

In case its of interest to you I noted when reading the Ducimus Classic book on the Spitfire by Peter Moss he says the MkVIII had a 10’9″ prop and that the two bladed prop was only on the Mk 1 up to airframe 178 in the K series. I thought that you already had a 4 bladed prop but I suppose it may only be galss fibre and suitable to be powered!
Yes he props glass fibre would break into bits in a second. Our Props are just over 8Ft but should look OK. Four bladed Spit props are way out of my league so his one has o be a compromise. Plus of coarse we are missing allot of BHP so a slightly shorter prop helps there.

We are trying to make a four bladed prop now by mating two of our single piece (repro) Watts ones together, so the prop will look right.
