Mk1 Anson Projects

Hi all

Are there any ongoing airworthy Mk1 Anson projects in the UK or elsewhere at the moment? I am wondering if anyone would be interested in a collaboration – in particular, getting some wooden parts made.

Regarding reference to “CAD Guy Gunnar” : I am researching existing Anson Mid-Upper Gun Turret Dimensioned Line Drawings (A.W.11) to facilitate fabrication of Vac-Form Tooling to produce clear Rhodoid Panel portion of the Cloche/Cupola in two symmetrical vertical halves about the Centre Line of the Gun Slot. My reason for this project is to complete my fathers 1/12th scale RC model of an (RAF MCS) Air Sea Rescue 68ft (Hants & Dorset) High Speed Launch which utilized (A.W.77) navalised versions of the Anson Turret. I located photos of two Anson Turrets at Newark Air Museum via Net Surfing but have not as yet located detailed dimensioned technical drawings for either turret. Is it possible that technical drawings for either turret already exist, or, that someone might be able to provide a detailed sketch with dimensions ? I attach a photo my father took towards the end of WWII, his model hand built to John Pritchard plans, & others provided by previous research contacts. Thank You in advance for any and all assistance provided. Kind Regards from British Columbia, Canada.

I did think about bidding on some of these lots in order to save them, but thought that those who actually needed them for a project would save them “guess I was wrong”.

I would be happy to donate cash for total scrap value if the scrappie holds off destroying what is left and allows anybody to come in and pick up things over the next few months in return for somebody local coordinating dispersal of items to good homes.
What’s left ?Not much i suspect the yard tuns things round quickly in the active part the only reason the rads are still about is with the application of a cutting torch you end up with a weight piece of copper. How much does he want ? i will see about a picture and find out there are no cooling fins only the roundish honey comb core and a few pipe connections.

Vickers Potts Oil Coolers

The scrap arrived in a yard not far from me so if any one needs some oil coolers speak up now as I may be able to rescue them before they get crushed the rest is already pans. A pair of static wheels are also Available to a good home.

Definitely want oil coolers and most particularly the duralumin tee pieces at the top of the coolers. If the brass fins have already been scrapped or damaged then the tee pieces are what I am most after. I would be grateful if these could be saved. Also mainwheel oleo struts if the U/C is being scrapped or has been damaged.
Also a little piece of identifiable (to aircraft and position in frame) fuselage tube that fits in the hand for metallurgical testing.
Any electrical components like metal fuseboxs, plugs, terminals.
Shame for all this stuff to go to a scrappie in 2015.:apologetic:

Magic,

I dug out the pages from AP1525, 2nd Edition April 1937 to show how they were mounted.

The pair you have are the manually cranked versions, notorious for circuits and bumps in the MkI.

Enjoy and thanks for taking these away.

Ok, sorted and laid out the contents of one shelf lot.

A couple of comments on the photos
1. Forgot to add gunners parachute storage rack to the photo adjacent to rear compass mount bracket.
2. wooden bulkhead remains c/w fire extinguisher bracket should be between pilot and nav not laid beside rear access door.

The window frames have a story to tell. Most have remains of green/brown cammo paint over sprayed in Canada with trainer yellow but a few have no cammo paint layers only primer and trainer yellow. These are stamped as AX246 so this Uk built MkI was sprayed yellow in the factory and then shipped overseas in this finish.

The other self lot contains a more electic part selection that needs a bit more thought.

For the moment for the main assemblies.

Metal wings, centre section c/w nacelles and u/c from AGPG – two engines – turret – half built fuselage with incomplete internal fittings were under construction for a foreign source.

All on retention until extent of ownership/payment agreed.

All the bits to finish and detail not stuffed into the fuselage were dispersed or smelted by the sale along with the multiple duplicates.

Ref post 34. Greetings Beermat. The Mossie wing is 54’2″ and the Anson 1 is 56’6″, so building an Anson wing is not too much of a worry as far as length is concerned. The Anson wing is decidedly much simpler than the Mossie as it is, to all intents, a copy of the Avro 10 which was a licenced version of the Fokker FVII .

I know of a couple of Anson fuselages in New Zealand but I do not know if the owner would let them go. I could find out?

Anyone contemplating a metal-winged Mk.I would do well to compare notes with Bill Reid, MH120/ZK-RRA is a real thing of beauty and a delight to have on the airshow scene. It’s just gained a smoke system so it’ll be great to see her in action at Omaka in two weeks’ time.

An airworthy Oxford? :love-struck: Now that’s an exciting prospect. Anyone serious about getting into an Oxbox project, please get in touch via PM as I have a friend who can help and I’d love to help get one airborne, regardless of location.

I feel the time is past for this source.

The fuselage is not a major problem. The sadly gone T.21 or any other Mk can be easily returned to Mk.I configuration.

To modify Mk.19, 20, 21 or 22 needs removal of the top hoops and then flattening the top tube profile of section B, C, D & E.

The gun ring on the Mk.I was set into the top of sections E and F. The only other addition is the port nose m/g mount.

Snip, snip and Bobs your Mk.I

The alternative is to cut and weld new tube for a structurally sound frame. 19 different combinations of diam and gauge between 1/4″ – 1 3/4″ and 17 to 26.

No single length is longer than 9′ 2″

In the scheme of the rest of the static airframe the fuselage frame is a low cost item for either new build or modification of donor.

Ross – You have to wonder if there is the money out there to make it happen. The way forward would surely be an ex Australian / South African / Canada MK.1 fuselage coupled with engine
frames . The tragedy of this whole story is that a perfectly presentable T.21 fuselage died the death for nothing .
