Mk2 Ejection Seat Puzzler

I’ve just been gifted a Martin-Baker Mk2E ejection seat which appears to bear more of a resemblence to the early Mk2H seat I need for my Hunter F5 cockpit, WN957, than the Mk2HAN I currently have. This early seat has the leg stirrups fitted and has no seat pan firing handle which is more akin to the Mk2H’s fitted to the early Hunters.

  • My question is what are the differences between a Mk2E and Mk2H seat (other than the letter on the dataplate:)), I’ve approached MB and haven’t heard anything as yet so I though I’d ask the experts?

As a twist to the story… the previous owner bought the seat direct from RAF Stafford in 1997, where at some point in it’s previous life it had been scruffily repainted and the seat pan marked with XE624.

  • Does anyone know why this ‘Meteor’ seat has been marked with a Hunter serial (XE624 is now at Metheringham and is an ex-Brawdy gate guardian)?

Cheers,

Mike

Jafeoda, see email.

CF100 safety equipment fit to the seat would be differerent to the RAF fit, though.

Good day, I’m a volunteer with the Air Defence Museum in Bagotville, Canada. We have a CF-100 ejection seat in the museum that we would like to clean up and one day display in one of our exhibit. The problem I have, is the lack of maintenance manual. Anybody knows , were I can get that kind of publication for the Martin-Baker Mk2E ejection seat?

Thanks

Both seat types fitted with Type J PSP, Mk.8 (A for 2E) or Mk.13 Parachute.

Same for the 2D in the Sea Hawk – both of which I am looking for to go in 838!

OK,

Mk.2E commonly fitted to Meteor.
Fixed thigh guards Mk.1E modified by application of conversion set ..although I’ve seen some with the thigh guards also removed.

Mk.2H commonly fitter to Hunter
Basically a Mk.2E seat with headrest further forward. Fixed thigh guards. Cord leg restraint by modification.

Both seat types fitted with Type J PSP, Mk.8 (A for 2E) or Mk.13 Parachute and ZF harness.

Regards
Ross

Mk2e was an upgrade of the Mk1E which was used in Meteors. The main difference between the 1e and 2e is the Barostatic release if my memory serves me correct. I’ll have to go digging through my manuals to pinpoint the difference between an E and H model though.

I contacted Martin Baker in my quest to find out about my ex RAAF Mk1E a few times my snail mail and via email and have never had a reply either šŸ™
