Mk41 with MBDA missiles

Apologies if this has already been posted to the board and I missed it, but I stumbled on this and found it interesting

http://http://defenseupdates.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/mbda-missiles-to-be-integrated-with.html

If true and if it happens this addresses SOME of the concerns I have with t45 and t26

T45
Put in a central row of mk41s and fit with VL Asroc VL Exocet VL Tomahawk and/or some quad packed CAAMM

T26
Those 24 cells can be Mk41s and so accept the above
Possibly the standalone CAAMM silos can be deleted and 32 (or 40?) mk41s installed now that phalanx has been moved amidships
Which makes the whole thing much more exportable

In cloud cuckoo Al world it also allows for a KDXIIA / italian GP Fremm style class of t26s with a 76mm gun rather than 5″ Aster 30s in the Mk 41 silo and PAAMs (without S1850M)

Doesn’t mean it can’t be produced in the UK Kev…..

Yeah but you’d have to set up a production line for it when one already exists, which isn’t a particularly cost efficient way to build things.

With the RN why VL Exocet? The UK moved to Harpoon due to how poor Exocet was. Also Tomahawk doesn’t represent British industry, Naval SCALP would be better for the UK with regards to industry and independence. Could the US stop the UK using Tomahawk against Argentina for example?

Is there much in Naval Scalp (or whatever they’ve called it now) that’s British? the Broach warhead has gone.

coz there is not yet vl harpoon. maybe the will be by the time metal is cut for t26?

How poor mm38 was. Latest Exocet looks much better

Tomahawk is already in RN service and costs about half as much per round as Naval SCALP. That does not mean that the needs Nd lobbying of British interests won’t lead to its adoption of course. There is also the possibility that the mk41 integration with MBda missiles would face fewer obstacles from our European partners if UK ordered SCALP for its skimmers.
