As for people putting ‘crap’ on government forms – THEY(the government) started it by asking stupid questions on their silly forms, then threatening people with sanctions if they don’t fill out the forms and return them.

Seconded!!:D

You must point out who has filled in a census form ‘incorrectly’.

Just because you don’t approve of an answer that is perfectly acceptable to the ONS, doesn’t actually make it ‘incorrect’.

Or does your rather joyless world view outrank theirs for some reason you have yet to share with the rest of us?

Or to paraphrase:

“I can’t think of any possible explanation as to why an ‘official’ having to enter one number rather than another on a data entry form will bring down the NHS, schools, nurseries and all the rest of the fabric of society as I’d previously suggested, so I will try and divert people’s attention and hope they don’t notice I have made a foolish posting”

Moggy

Nice try. What I said was that anyone who fills in the census form incorrectly in general terms shouldn’t be surprised when the data comes out in error. As well you know.
In fairly typical fashion, and like many others, you resort to exaggeration and twisting of the words in a attempt to belittle. Well, it hasn’t worked.

I have to say that I didn’t realize sniggering about what you filled in on a official form like a 12 year old constitutes a “sense of humour”. I think some of us have moved on a little more than that.

Anyway, time to move on again as the playground mentality seems to have broken out. Again.

The point that has obviously slipped past your comprehension is that the ONS consider it a perfectly valid answer.

Putting Jedi down as your religion makes more sense than any main stream
religeon, when O-be-wan said “the force is an energy field that surrounds us penetrats us, it binds the galaxy together”, what scientists now call dark matter and dark energy, without it our Galaxy and all other spiral galaxys would fly apart. So a Jedi who believes in a force that does exist has more credability than someone who just thinks there is a god.:D

As ever, I’m not really interested in whether one or other of you has a sense of humour but what I can tell you is this: It’s bl**dy useful to have a fully qualified Jedi Knight in the house when the Jehovah’s Witnesses come round to distribute their own small particular piece of good cheer. More than once the Jobo’s have gone up the garden path scratching their heads.

Andy, How strange, We had a couple of them at our front door the other night. I invited them in, and one of them just collapsed on the doorstep,
I said to his friend, “What’s the matter with him?.”.
His friend replied, “It’s the first time anyone has EVER invited us in”. 😉

As DaveCurnock has a sense of humour, twisted or otherwise, he has now joined the “I have a sense of humour” club, and as such, now has a “Friend”.:p

Not having the same sense of humour as MoggyC:-
a) does not make me or anyone else po-faced
b) does not mean I do not have sense of humour
c) is a good thing, in light of the Savile thread

As well you know, I was referring to the census in more general terms. Putting Jedi as a religion only makes you look like one thing and one thing only and I reckon you can guess what it is….

..the forum rules forbid me from stating it explicitly.

You seem a little confused about the process.

Said ‘officials’ would merely have coded it as 896 (the code assigned to the Jedi answer since 2001 census) and it would then have been automatically added to the other 176,631 similar answers.

Whether this would have caused them more or less hilarity than an answer of, say, Buddhism I am, unlike you, unable to predict.

However it should be noted that after the 2001 census the ONS issued a press release with the headline

“390,000 Jedis there are”

It would seem the ‘officials’ are far less po-faced than you.

Derek;

Are you suggesting that such a small percentage of the population could become responsible for the further decline of the education and health systems…because of what they filled out on a census form?

Is wanting to be a “Jedi” any less valid than any other so called religion?

Steve

The point that has obviously slipped past your comprehension is that the ONS consider it a perfectly valid answer.

You may like to explain to us all how the official having to type ‘896’ instead (presumably) of 895 or 897 is somehow depriving the country of schools and hospitals.

I await this explanation with intense excitement, it promises to be fascinating.

As I said, it certainly lacks originality. 390000 numpties together.

Presumably those that think it’s hilarious to fill in the census form wrongly will also think it’s hilarious when there aren’t enough hospital beds, nursery places, schools etc….

On second thoughts, no, they probably don’t.

Yes Moggy!

Thanks for reminding me of that press release…I’d forgotten about that.

Just goes to show that even the grey corridors of officialdom have a sense of humour sometimes. It may have even brightened their day!

…And I agree with your sentiments.

And I’m not sure the officials who analyzed the data thought it was hilarious that some numpties put “Jedi ” on an official form.

You seem a little confused about the process.
