A friend just sent me these, one is a link to the story & the other is a link to photos. I hope my choice of title has made amends for indescretion the otherday.

Wessex Boy, glad u got the kids started on models, my step son is only 4 so a bit young at the mo but as Im building he sits next to me watching everything I do. Dare I ask wot ya 1:1 project is? And I should have guessed that you would have RC Whirlythingymebobs :p LoL Bex
Oh, once Ive finished my F4, next on my list is a 1:72 Wessex, so I might be tappin u up for some info on the Old Girls. Bex

Thanks Bex, unfortunately I don’t get a lot of time in there at the moment, what with work, Kids and full-size flying.
As the kids are now occupying one of the workbenches with their projects (which I encourage) I am aiming to cut down on the modelling stuff and concentrate on 1:1 fixed wing and RC Helis, I have not been up to the Model flying field for over 2 years:(

Wessex Boy, ok jealousy started to creep in with the photos of the models, but the beer in the fridge, well thats torn it, that is just brilliant, good drills LoL.
I wonder if me posting this guys unfortunate crash has been interpreted as me taking the mickey, especially after my little boo boo the other day with a poor choice of thread title. I actually admire this guys hard work to make a very good model, ok somewhat jealous too I have to admit. Also its a chance for forumites to show off their hard work too and discuss various model projects and ideas…………….. or am I being paranoid? Oh once I find my camera I will hopefully have some photos of my dining room ceiling. Bex

The Valiant was an impressive engineering feat at its time – 3 years from first drawing to first flight – and one of the aircraft its designer was most proud of. A 10 year career only ended by fatigue brought on by a use it was not designed for was nothing to sniff at in the 1950s and there was nothing fundamentally wrong with it to warrant your comments…
Simon spent a lot of time at Hendon measuring up the real one, and was torn whether to use the 2 jetcat engines or to go for 4 Wrens, I think simplicity won over authenticity

Sorry Guys, got to raise the Stakes, here is my Workshop, it occupies 1/3 of my Double Garage…..:D

Damien, I think u missed the last line of my post, it points out that I dont really know much about Valiants and therefore Im in no position to make too many comments, think that sorta says it all really. Bex
By: bexWH773 - 15th March 2007 at 17:31
Rob, definately this story shows that the Valiant is not a good model to build in anyway shape or form!! The real ones had a very short career with the odd crash or two, this model…….. well the story says it all.
Although I have to say, Ive never seen a real Valiant, only Vulcs & Vics, so im not really in a position to make too many comments on the Old Valiant. Bex

hope my future wife (whoever she maybe) likes my hobbies as well as me, i love fishing and if anybody cuts my bruce and walker carp rod in half….

Well so far ive got 1:72 AS Gannet, Canberra B(i)Mk6 PR9,B57B (with RB57E,PR7 & Mk8 to follow) Tigermeet RF4E then 1:48 F4 FGR Mk2 with my 1:32 on the go at the same time as a 1:72 EA6 Prowler. Im planning 1:72 Black Buck Vulcan & Victor refuelling on the ceiling. My list of kits in my spare room to build is quite large, and the other half has a load of 1:144 Airbus’s (she likes em, why I dont know, im a Boeing gal meself 707 to build) we’re also planning a Concorde & Red Arrows diamond on our ceiling too.
Miniman, Id love some models that big, but our deal is I get to play with a full size PR7 so Im not allowed anything bigger than 1:32 at home  , but I think she might change that when she realises my next F4 is as big as her 1:144 A380 shes building also she still has to see how big my 1:72 V bombers will gotta laugh Bex

Seems the Valient is a decidedly unlucky aircraft – both real and model. 🙁
By: miniman - 15th March 2007 at 16:25
Hah, I know what you mean about old car! I also have 4 classic Mini’s, hence the handle!:p
Im researching a Beaufighter TX at the moment from 404 squadron, called “Eightball”, that crashed locally. I was getting info from here about her a few months back. She will be around 10th scale or so as well. Im not starting to cut any wood untill its thoroughly researched and perfect first though.:)

You lucky b’stard!! I have to make do with a Corgi Lightning, Victor & Vulcan. The rest are in boxes. The garage is full of old car though so I can’t complain too much… 😉
I have an Airfix Vulcan that I want to turn into a diorama as well with all the nav lights, taxi lights etc working. Time and space… 🙁

Hi Bex, Ive got an 1/8th scale Mk2 Hurricane hanging from our dining room roof, next to a 1/10th scale Stearman. Theres a 1/12th scale MkVb Spitfire, and a 1/10th scale Hurricane Mk1 in the lounge. The Spit lives on top of the TV, and the Hurri is on its own shelf, cos it has retracts. All are full house RC.
The spare bedroom is jam-packed with my scale toys, all my own design and scratch built.
The missus hasnt got a look in! :diablo:

Poor guy, I know how he feels, but Id never spend that sort of cash on a model. If I had that sort of money, Id be buying a real aircraft!;)
My missus complains about my modelling habit. I told her that the planes were here before she was, and they’ll be there long after she’s gone!:dev2:
Likewise, but as for the models, im teaching my partner how to build models so i can do what I want LoL She likes her airliners whereas I like my early jets which are slowly filling the dining room ceiling, though I think she might change her mind when she realises just how big my 1:32 Wildhorse Phantom will be LoL And I do have several WW2 fighters & bombers to build for my step sons ceiling too…….. all good fun Bex

His First wife Sawed his large-scale Skyraider in Half!
I’d have booted her out in no seconds flat! 😉 :diablo:
By: wessex boy - 15th March 2007 at 12:44
what have failed marriages got to do with an impressive & expensive model going up in flames?
His First wife Sawed his large-scale Skyraider in Half!
He used to belong to my Model Flying Club, his Models were excellent, and his flying skills very good (rare, as good builders rarely make good flyers)
By: Old Fart - 14th March 2007 at 23:20
They interviewd the guy on Anglia News and even showed footage of the crash! had a flame out in one of the engines on take off as you see the flame come out the back of the engine you see the aircraft start wobbling about in the air before it banks towards some trees and dissapering behind them then BANG.
By: MerlinPete - 14th March 2007 at 21:13
In this instance, I don`t necessarily think it was reporters digging around in this guy`s personal life. What they have printed is probably what he told them himself.
He may even be quite proud that it cost him his marriage! :dev2:
Most all-consuming hobbies can become obsessive if you let them get out of hand, after all.

I agree C6, Im not a great fan of journalists on the best of days, what have failed marriages got to do with an impressive & expensive model going up in flames? I have enough trouble building non flying model aircraft (Oh and restoring a full size PR7 tee hee) and if that was me, well I think I might just cry a wee bit and throw my handbag. (at the reporter) Bex
