Nostalgia makes me ponder early aviation memories.I wonder of any reader can fill in the back ground to a character from the mid sixties?
He set up a large airport model in a Blackpool department store. The airliners actually ran on tracks and the clever bit was that on take off they would rise up on rods then disappear into a slot cut into a cloud backdrop.I also recall that he had large sections of actual instrument panels and throttle boxes which he used to appear to control the model. I was impresssed with his full pilots uniform as
well.
Wondering if he really was a former pilot and what happened to his display?

I believe that display also was bought to Australia. I recall seeing it way back in the 60s and IIRC it was billed as being of UK origin. It really was great fun.

Beatties in Wolverhampton, late 60’s, I would guess 1967. I remember little “follow me” vans which guided the airliners into their parking places.
Thanks for a happy memory.
Incidentally OT but there was a similar character with a “works rally Mini” which did a pre-computer simulated drive. Age around 14 I crashed it, again in Beatties toy department.

model airport
I recall seeing something similar in a department store in London, I must ahve only been 4 years old (1965) and remember it as ‘Captain Carney’s model airport’ – same thing ?
