Model Shop near Heathrow

Hey everybody.Myself and a freind are flying over to Heathrow on the 29th to do some spotting. I konw how to get to Hatton Cross for the 27L landings and also the spot for the 27R landings.
How good is Hatton Cross/Myrtle Ave if 09R is being used for Take Offs?

Any more to what I want to know. I think Ive heard of a model shop in some hotel near Heathrow. My freind is a model fanatic and would like to buy a few. So does this place excist or is it somewhere else?

How good is the visitors centre and how easy is it to get to on foot from Hatton Cross?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I was wondering would anyody from here be interested in coming along?

Hmmmm that doesnt sound like the best idea as there was quite alot of police around the last time but if thats what we have to do then let it be. I better wear my running shoes.

Is it possible to walk to the visitors centre from Hatton Cross. The last time I was there the roads looked very busy and there didnt seem to be a footpath.

When i went there with MarkL last month, the road near Hatton Cross was bedlam. There is a central reservation, so if you find a gap between the traffic, just RUN! hehe

Yes, you could go and visit Nasty-Nige at CAM at the Sheraton Skyline hotel (as mentioned above). However, I would personally recommend the LHR Visitor Centre on the north side of Heathrow, inside which Aviation Retail Direct (www.aviationretaildirect.co.uk) have a shop selling models.

Andy

LOL, I agree about Nigel… 😉 However I always find that the one at the Visitor Centre is more expensive than CAM.

Yes, if you go to the Sheraton Skyline Hotel (free buses run from the central terminal area along the A4 and they can stop next to the hotel, I guess yu could get a free transfer from T4 (near Hatton Cross) as it is free to travel on the Heathrow Express between the terminal areas). Just go into the hotel entrance and turn right, there you will find Collectors Aircraft Models, they are one of the largest (and most reasonably priced) specialists in the UK, although often the amount of stock displayed is disappointing. Their website is www.collectorsaircraft.com.

The visitors centre is not very good, but again, the free buses that run to along the A4 can stop near the visitors centre. It is free, so won’t break the bank, but don’t get too excited.

I used to live in berkshire and worked on a contract near Heathrow so know the area fairly well, but have now moved, so couldn’t help you out.
