Model warbirds

Right then, just for a spot of fun: What’s your favourite historic aircraft model?

It can be any scale and be either plastic static or radio-controlled. Also, if there is a particular reason for it being your favourite, let us know!

It’d be interesting to see what other forum members have!

One of my favourites is this Revell Spitfire MkVB in Battle of Britain movie markings. S/L Skipper has always been my favourite character from the film, plus the Revell Spitfire markings are easy to convert 🙂

I have another favourite, a 1/24th scale Spitfire Ia (AR213) but I don’t have a pic yet.

Hi Chris,

I’ll vote for a bit of formation flying. We’ll have to meet up. My brother in law lives in Gillingham. So, next time we’re down I’ll let you know. I used to deliver to Safeways RDC, Aylesford & I got one of the guy’s there, interested in gliding. He’s into slope soaring, so I’ll not only will I have to bring a glider but probably the C 160, too.:D

Cheers,
Neilly

Buchon models

If anyone’s interested, Hannants stock a 1/72 scale two-seater Buchon in full Battle of Britain movie livery (strangely, the pic shows a single-seater!).

I’m gonna order that one! 😀

Neilly- WOW! she is beautiful! Really can’t wait to see her when she is finished.
We have to meet up at some of the shows and give that USAAF team a run for their money! I’ve got the spitfire, my dad has the hurricane and you have the Mossie, what a trio!
Also, we can add a pica FW 190, 3x P-51 mustangs and two more spitfires to that from my field alone!

I can see it now… the bast model WW2 team in the UK is about to be formed! 😀 😀 😀 😀

Hi Daz

The spit hurri and lanc are from the airfix kit, and as promised here is a pic of the spit II and a chipmunk.

Nice Mossie, Neilly. I used to have a 63″ span Complete-a-Pac version done up as a 130 Sqdn B.IV, GB-A – bought it as a potential static rebuild from a guy near Dundee (broken in two behind the wings!) but ended up having it restored to fly! Sold it on before I had the chance to, though. Didn’t fancy crashing such a beauty!

And now we know it works! The engine part of Freddie. A Stu Mackay 45 cc engine & silencer. 6.8 hp & turns a 22″x10″ 3 blade prop at 6,180 rpm.

Here we go yet again. Picture at less than 30 Kb.

Hopefully it should show me try not to get my fingers in the props, as I adjust fuel mixture:D

Scott – Are the Spit II, Hurricane and Lancaster from the Airfix set?

I’ll have to find a space on the ceiling for them – the Battle of Britain models (God-knows how many) have to contend for space with Bruce the Great White Shark….! 😉

Cheers Transall!

I’m currently working on an airfield diorama. It was going to be the Dark Blue World set, but a lack of Czech markings means it’ll be the Battle of Britain set instead. Just got the Airfix control tower and another Revell Spitfire VB. Need to get hold of a few MkIXs and a MkI! 🙂

Might get another Hispano “Civilschmitt” to build as a yellow-nose next time.

Oh, and the girlfriend has promised to get me the Airfix 1/72 BBMF set – shall I have them at “Coningsby” or in formation over the bedroom? 😉

Hi Chris,

Glad to hear no damage. These undercarriages are a bit hit & miss, sometimes! I had real fun & games getting the u/c doors to work properly – took me forever. Damn good job I wasn’t on the original dH Prototype, ‘cos if I had, it probably still waiting to enter service:D

The engines are Stu Mackay 45’s. They have the same output as the Z62. Turning a 3 blade 22×10 prop I’ve got 75lbs of thrist. On full power I can’t hold the model back. So it should go like s**t off the preverbial shovel!

Aother try at picture posting????

Cheers,
Neilly

Here is a picture (if it works) of a Monogram 1/48 HE-111 that I started out converting to a CASA 2111. The engines were aftermarket resein, but I don’t remember who made them. I have never finished the model. Prior to taking this picture, I probably hadn’t touched it in four or five years.

I have to confess I did once shove a pair of bangers into the back end of a 1-72 scale Lightning. Tight fit, and they stuck out quite a bit, but it looked rather impressive for a few seconds when I lit them and threw it. And then they blew… 😀

Glenn – The Hurricane has been temporarily on hold while we finished the Spitfire. But, now that the Spit has flown, we will get back on with the Hurri!
We hope that she will be ready for Christmas time.
I will try to post a photo when i can.
BTW, thanks for the photos of her noseart, they were a great help!

Neilly – Thanks again, i will try to post some flying photos, when i get some! Flew her once today, but unfortunately she is grounded for a while. One of the u/c legs disappeared up the wheel well on landing! No damage, just need to revise the retract systems.
As for your mossie… wow. 1/5th scale! now that is a BIG model! What are you going to power it with? 2x zenoah 62ccs?! We should definately meet up for some formation flying!

Hi,

Good to be back on the forum after some computer problems!
I recently bought the Hobbycraft Buchon that Topgun Regect was asking about: mine is boxed as the “Civilschmitt” and it as both Spanish and BoB decals.
That’s a very nice “aerial diorama” you got there, Dazdaman.

Best regards, Transall.
