Hi all,
I’d be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of any kind of modelling resource for the Blackburn Firebrand. I have a vacform kit of the TFII but virtually no idea of the detail of the aircraft, or what individual aircraft did apart from crash (as I like to have a vague idea of what each model I build represents in terms of a living breathing bit of history).
There seems to be very, very little out there apart from some pretty grainy pictures and very vague squadron histories. There are no monographs in print that I can find, and barely any reference at all – ‘Properly to Test’ has a couple of distant pictures and some info on development.
If anyone has any dusty volumes that have escaped my attention, files of photos from your service days or the lost surviving airframe in your attic I’d be pleased to know about it…

Just been looking at the Warpaint website (www.warpaint-books.com) and see that the Blackburn Firebrand is the next one on the list. So just hold on in there a bit longer

Thanks all. That Airfix article sounds interesting!

Air Britain has FAA Fixed Wing Aircraft Since 1946 which details as much info on the Firebrand (and all others that fall into that band…) as you could hope to know over fifty years after most of them left service.
A copy of Airfix Magazine (1980s?) that I picked up at a jumble sale had a conversion feature on turning a Skyraider into a Firebrand, with 1/72nd plans and all; mine looked quite nice for a few years – until it took a nose dive off a top shelf… Don’t have either now.

IN Wings of the Navy by Capt Eric Brown there is a chapter on the Firebrand, including a cutaway. Also, I think that a few years ago, Scale Aircraft Modelling did an Aircraft in Detail jointly on the Albacore and the Firebrand, that’s from memory though, the relevant volume’s somewhere in the loft.

Wing of Fame Volume 17 has 12 pages and quiet few b&w plus 2 colour images on the Firebrand and Firecrest!
