I have a small question which has been bucking me for a while. Boeings model number are a bit of a puzzle to me.

For instance a KLM Boeing is called Boeing 747-406. I think I can manage the 747-4XX bit but my question is for the xxx-x06 bit. Is this number specific for an airline or does it change for the airline if it’s going to be in a different configuration. Basically I wanne know anything and everything about this number. Could someone help me with this?
