Moderation – The A vs B Issue. PLEASE READ!!!

Fellow Forum Members….

As you will probably already be aware, a number of regular posters have expressed their dismay at the proliferation of Airbus vs Boeing threads on this Forum of late.

While we have no wish at all to dictate what people may or may not post (within reason) this is clearly an issue which is affecting members’ enjoyment of this Forum – and enjoyment is, after all the name of the game – so we have agreed to try out a possible solution.

It will work like this…….

As you can see, there are 3 new sticky threads: “New Airbus Orders“, “New Boeing Orders” and ” A vs B Fanboy Dump“.

All postings on new Airbus and Boeing orders should be made in the appropriate threads, and the full text of press releases should not be copied and pasted where a link can be posted instead.

The third sticky thread is set aside specially for those who simply cannot do without A vs B posturing and willy-waving.

We will dump any such threads in here so that users will be able to avoid them if they so desire. Attempts to turn existing threads into pointless A vs B slanging matches will be treated as trolling, and offending postings will be deleted without warning.

Persisent offenders may be banned.

Any new thread which rightfully belongs in one of the three stickies may be merged into the correct thread without further warning or discussion.

New threads that don’t belong in a sticky will remain on the main Forum for as long as they don’t become eligible for merging.

The decision of the Moderators as to whether or not a thread should be merged will be final.

Let’s try this out for a few months and see how it works. If it doesn’t work, then we’ll look at something else instead.

Thank You

No sub-forums – that’s a given for the time being, I’m afraid. 🙂

Fair enough, I dont particularly like all the stickies either.

Definitly there should be no sub forums though.

No need, and we already have enough sub forums.

No – Not the same as trip reports (I didnt think that should have been a sub forum…..)but anyway, you cant just have an Airbus and Boeing sub forum, you would then have to have a Fokker,Embraer,Bombadier.

I guess Rdc’s fear makes sense. However let’s make a test and make a wrap up later.

Grey, although the idea sounds good I’m worried about the fact that if we HAVE to post orders into these topics then we may loose the ability to have focused dicussions about individual orders. I mean I’m not a big fan of the A vs. B discussions that sometimes get carried away I have to admit, but I think that these ‘order’ threads could end up huge, and if there are multiple airlines ordering within days of each other then the topic threads will get VERY confused if we try to hold all discussions related to aircraft orders in there. It also means that if you log in you will potetentially have to trawl through the thread for the news..I think one of the main benefits of the individual threads is that you can scroll your mouse over the title for an overview before deciding if you want to read the whole thread. For me it is less of an issue because I have access to online publications, but these are expensive and I only use them because they are paid for by my company. For those who do not have access to this information they may rely on the forum for fast news, because if you wait for Flight International or Airliner World to come out then you may be at least a week behind the news, and by then to make comment in the forum is difficult.

I know where you are coming from with the idea. But I’m more tempted to say that the mods may be better off just deleting any posts which have a whiff of A vs B. What you have to remember is that sometimes some of these posts which appear to be A vs B are fully justified comments and areas of discussion…for example, why shouldn’t someone question why one type was chosen when the other appears to be a more logical choice. This is particularly the case when somebody does not have a detailed knowledge, it is not necessarily an A/B battle.

Sorry to be a pain..just a view.

It appears that one or two numpt….ahem – I mean imaginative individuals, of course… have decided to try and wreck this initiative.

Their “fun” is more important than other people’s enjoyment of this Forum, it would seem.

I’d just like to remind them that I was asked by a number of regular and valued contributors to do something about the A vs B nonsense that is rapidly spoiling this Forum.

I will do as they ask.

If this idea with the sticky threads doesn’t work, or is made unworkable, then I’ll start looking at removing the causes of the problem rather than treating the symptoms.

Final warning chaps – you know who you are. 😡

Thank You

Great idea. What if the orders threads descend into AvB?

Superb idea, think this should sort out some of the mess.

Oh and I’ve given the thread my obligatory 5 star 😉
