Shock horror 😮 etc… (but bear with it, it could make an interesting thread)
Most of us reading here are interested primarily in old aeroplanes, whether it is an interest in their history, the way they fly or simply that they make a better sort of noise 🙂
The question for today is … what is your favourate modern aircraft. Defining modern could be tricky, it is probably cheating to choose something like a Nimrod or anything else that has such close ties to icons of the past, but rules are made to be broken so if you can justify it…. 😉
My choice (as seen at Baginton last week), the Piaggio Avanti- it kind of reminded me of a modern Dragon Rapide, in terms of capacity, intended use and overall style… over to you

In no particular order:-
SR-71 Blackbird
F-14 Tomcat
EE Lightning
Viggen
Mirage F1 – although those Swiss MirageIIIs look lovely too
RA-5 Vigilante
I think that’ll do for now!!

If they’d moved the wings forward and the tail plane back, put the tail fin in the right place and turned the engines round the right way they might have actually sold some. Okay they did sell 4 I think but they ended up being forced to buy 2 of them back for some reason. Not bad considering they only built 54 of them in the first place. At least the Piaggio 180 Avanti was put back into production owing to popular demand, after being out of production for about 10 years.

No doubt
this one
Mirage IIIRS (Recon configuration) – “Black and White” – special paint applied before retirement of this type last year.
Therefore, now a warbird – not modern anymore :diablo:
