Monarch have announced officially that they are going to upgrade a number of A300-600 aircraft with Monarch Premium this winter, to meet demand for the every more popular service. Offering 34″ seat pitch, wider seats, in flight entertainment and upgraded meals, along with a private cabin is just the tip of the ice berg for Monarch.

Not brilliant imo; zero legroom and quite narrow seats. Unfortunately the A300 falls into the same category as the B767; whereas scheduled operators fit 2-4-2(A300)/2-3-2(767) seating, the charter carriers squeeze 3-3-3 and 2-4-2 configurations into them.
Very uncomfortable on long haul.
Like you say, they manage to squeeze an extra seat in each row, so as well as not having any leg room, you have no space either side of you either.
Look at British Airways 767s as an example. They hold somewhere in the region of 250 passengers (correct me if I am wrong). Compared to Thomson/Britannia, I flew G-OYBI years ago I know that had 328 seats on it. Amazing how the same aircraft can have nearly 80 seats more.
If you’re not flown anything other than charter, it won’t be anything new. When you start flying with scheduled airlines, you’ll notice a difference.

I, for one, am glad that Monarch is keeping hold of the A300-600s. Its nice to have them operating from the UK, I am sick of all the A320s and A321s and also hope Monarch keep their old 757 a little longer!
welcome back 🙂

I don’t think it has anything to do with Pax preference for the A300 or Monarch’s.
The Airline has seen an increasing demand for a certain service and are upgrading a member of their fleet to cater for that.
too bad we won’t get confimration of the exact reasons until düsseldwarf returns!
I guess you’re right.
i’lm sure if you made a poll on any flight 90% of the passengers have no idea of the type they are flying on. Claiming that pax prefer this or that is a non sense from my point of view.
Most of the pax are just concern by IFE, catering and pitch.

What is it like in economy on the A300s?? I’m going to Egypt on one next Easter so I’m eager to find out what it is like.

I’ve never been keen to go on a A300 or A310, and i don’t want to either. Time to retire them MON and get some A330’s to replace them!

I think the fact that the punters seem to love them is a rather more significant factor in this decision.
Not sure if the punters love them as much as other airlines fly newer aircraft. I flew on one a couple of years ago, which was fine but the cabin was beginning to look rather dated.

economy on the A300 is identical or very similar to that of the A330, just slightly smaller, still 3/3/3 and the short haul option would be 28″ but they may have a long haul option at 30″.

the article said that something along the line of
‘Passengars were in demand for a upgraded service, as Monarch will operate A300 aircraft to Indian and Sri-Lanka, therefore a demand for a extra leg room service has risen’

Great news, nice to see the A300 still having a good lease of life, although when I flew on a Monarch A300, I wasnt incredibly keen on it…

Monarch must really love their A300’s…
