Learned contributors,
Could some one please enlighten me as to the origins and ultimate fate
of a Stampe monoplane SR7B Monitor IV. Which contested the 1956 and
1957 Lockheed aerobatic trophy at Coventry. I believe as OO-SRZ. Was
it in fact the second incarnation ( as suggested by the “B” ) or even
the fourth ( as suggested by the roman “IV” ) or am I just being
naive. How many were built ?
Also would appreciate any details on KZ-VIII production. One competed
in 1962 and 1963 as D-EBIZ is this the one that is now G-AYKZ or
another.
Your comments and observations greatly appreciated.
Be lucky

Dear Friends,
Stampe & Renard SR.7B Monitor IV, serial number 1003, is the same aircraft as Farman F.500.
F.500 Monitor I, serial number 1001, flew 11.07.1952, reg. number F-WFOF. It aircraft still had wooden wing, the engine is Renault 4 Pei.
In 1953 it was converted to F.520 Monitor III with Regnier 4L engine, first flight 15.06.1953, reg.number didn’t change.
Only in 1955 F.510 Monitor II c/n 1002 become airborne (first flight 05.08.1955). She and SR.7B both had metal wing.
And the last, but not least: SR.7B Monitor IV, built not by Farman, but by Stampe & Renard, c/n, of course, 1003.
This aircraft was joint venture of Farman and SR. But nor France airforce, neither Belgian one oredered it, so only 3 prototypes (2 by Farman and 1 by SR) were built at all.
First won of L.Biancotto on SR.7B was in 1955 on Coventry Air Race, UK.

The OO-SRZ still exists and is on display in the AELR museum in Brussel.
It stands next to the unique SV.4D OO-SRS.

Whilst looking for something else, I have just come across a reference to and a photograph of the SR-7 in Flight of 7 July 1956. The page is part of the Flight online archive and so it’s there to be viewed by those with an interest.

Thanks to ‘Propstrike’ who loaned me his book on Avions Renard recently, here are a couple of pictures of the Stampe SV-7/Farman Monitor, dating from around the time of its first flight in 1953.
As you can see it is Chipmunkesque, but with a steel-tube and fabric fuselage. The initial SR-7 had a Blackburn Cirrus Major engine, while the SR-7B / Monitor III had a Cirrus Bombardier similar to the Auster AOP-9.
In France, Farman are reputed to have built some examples as the Monitor II with either SNECMA inline fours, or even Salmson-Argus inverted V-4 engines cannibalised from Fiesler Storchs!
Hope that helps!

Checking on one or two sources reveals Stampe SR.7B OO-SRZ to be a unique a/c. It was used by Leon Biancotto to win the 1956 Lockheed Aerobatic competition (second in 57). It now resides in the Brussels a/c museum. Having said that, I have visited the museum a couple of times but cannot say a remember the a/c……..probably grey matter problems!!!
Two KZ VIIIs were built both in 1949 at Kastrup:
C/n 202 OY-ACB Sold as HB-EPB later coming G-AYKZ……………
C/n 203 D-EBIZ Sold as OY-DRR now in Dansk Vetranflysamling Museum at Stauning. (D-EBIZ took part in the 1962 and 63 Lockheed comps.)
I feel fairly sure a third replica KX VIII has been built. Not been able to track down info on this one ………yet.
