Thanks to the forum 10D experts, my pics seem to be improving – if only slowly.
Could I ask if any of you have ‘fiddled’ with the cameras sharpness / contrast settings, as I am still shooting straight from the camera.
I am also experiencing some AF hunting. Do you find CENTRE focus square and ordinary AF to be the best, or are you happier with AI servo?
I know that Canon actually run courses to get the most out of the 10D, but has anyone seen a book which attempts to do a better job of explaining than the supplied manual ?
Enough questions for now, my friends. Anyway, the boss is on the way. Thanks all.

Once again, I am grateful for your advice DamienB.
It does seem as if many of the Dpreview contributors spend their entire lives picking their cameras apart, only to tell us how bad they are.
It seemed all so simple with my Dynax 9 and Kodachrome !

All my camera settings are in the neutral position. Things as (un)sharpening and contrast I do in PSP or PS or, the most easy of them all, in Irfanview. Many digital users here (Holland) are very happy with Breesebrowser. Haven’t used it, but maybe I shall give it a try.
For static shots, my AF is in one shot, otherwise in servo. I am not unhappy with the AF of the camera, but compared with my Eos 1V slide camera, it is very basic.
Don’t think using the camera is a big problem. Biggest problem is to understand Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or Breesebrowser. As long as one can not handle the software part of digital photography, one can not get the full use of the camera. That’s my problem, the photography parts is peanuts for me, but understanding and working with the sofware is what I don’t understand at the moment. BW Roger
